Lower SNR

My broadband has been rock solid and I want to lower my SNR to around 5. I phoned up Technical Support to ask them, the guy said he had increased the speed of my line but nothing has changed.
How do I lower SNR to around 5 - can I do it myself? Thanks

Re: Lower SNR

The default settings are 9dB, 6dB and 3dB with nothing in between
To change it yourself you will need a router which supports it
What are your present router stats - noise margin, speeds and attenuation

I can see that the advisor changed your speed profile from 6300 to 7150, however your sync speed is 7175, so the profile was correct and will likely just change back to 6300 with the next delta report that comes through to us Undecided
Your line currently has a target SNR margin of 6dB, however with a meantime between errors of 54 seconds, I wouldn't recommend lowing the SNR Margin any more.

The settings are in 3dB steps, which is quite a large jump if you are trying to maximise speed without a large corresponding increase in errors.

What YOU could do, is buy a modem/router which has the "SNR tweak" facility.
That would allow you to override the DLM SNR target algorithm, and try to adjust the figure in smaller than 3dB steps.
By increasing your sync speed (by lowering the target SNR) in small steps AND ensuring the connection is stable over a long time, the DLM learns that your line can go faster, and you may find that you may be able to do another small step a few weeks later - and achieve better results than if you had made that adjustment in one go.

I have had my ADSL SNR target 'tweaked' for years !  Cool

Re: Lower SNR

I managed to tweak it from that link you provided, thanks  Smiley

OK thanks I will definitely keep that in mind
