Low speed at the moment?

My speed keeps dropping recently.

Same thing happened last night too.

Crazy thing is, at times my connection is super fast, around 8-9 MB, but it seems to drop over time (week by week). I've had a BT engineer check my  wiring around 3-4 months back and all was fine. Any advice? Any chance this line training thing could be reset or something?
Thanks.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

For once, after many years with Plus Net I have to say I am not satisfied with the service concerning speed.
Last month, yes my fault, I forgot to update my card details. I had a new card. When my payment was not taken, the next time I connected I was informed and corrected the problem and payment taken immediately. However, at that time as reported but I did not know it at the time, there was a problem with 'the supplier' in my area - Norfolk. This was evident amongst other things with accounts where payment failed and the speed profile would be wrong i.e. traffic management. So it would seem that the traffic management system is not robust enough, quick enough to slow you down, but not capable to restore the profile when all is restored.
I have no problem withy traffic management, but it is this that is in error this time. I ahve followed instructions but speed is still low, although improved.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

Yeah, wish this stuff could be easier. I just want to surf without the hassle. I'll give it a bit and try a restart in case it's this traffic management problem. Thanks Briston, hope your issues get sorted soon.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

OK, just restarted my router. Hope that doesn't hurt me too much. Speed test:
Today 11:39  6542 kbps (818kB/s)  378 kbps (47.3kB/s)
I'll keep an eye on things. Hope I can get a better speed, but I suppose that will do. Hey, I'm greedy  Smiley

Re: Low speed at the moment?

I just think it is wrong that we have to take corrective action for something that we did not cause.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

Briston, I make you right. Have to say I'm kinda getting tired of checking my broadband stats etc. Again, not sure why broadband just doesn't work, at faster speeds. How long has this technology been around... I think the problem may be BT. I left BT after being with them for around 2-3 months. Terrible time. At the time, I didn't understand this thing about companies just selling BT services, or using their kit. If I did, I'm not sure I would have chosen PlusNet.
Best service I've had/tried so far is SKY's, believe it or not.
With BT/PlusNet I get incredible stats etc. but I never get that actual speed, if that makes sense. I've even had a BT engineer change/test cables at the exchange (whilst with BT BB) and local box, but it seems no matter what they do, I just cannot get the speed suggested by my stats. Again, not an expert, so excuse the lack of technical terms..
Also, this line training thing (DLM ?), it just seems to mess things up. My connection seems to become stable and then all of a sudden my stats change and my connection changes for the worse. Why does this have to be so hard.
Oh, can someone explain to me why my Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps] may say at times be 15,464 (or similar), but if I where to call support they'll tell me "your line can only support 5/7 meg" etc. which is what I get, most of the time. What the hell does that mean? When I signed up with PN I was given an estimate of around 13 mb. I have been connected at speeds higher than 6 mb and all SEEMED to be OK. Just weird.
But again, not an expert at all.

Re: Is my SNR OK?

No - it is far too high.
Did you have a lot of disconnections or line problems before
I assumed that the speed is actually 8215 and not 8125 and that you are on ADSL2+
The line may be banded but I am never sure about the actual banding levels

Re: Low speed at the moment?

HI stogi,
You have a number of disconnections which wont help matters. How is your kit set up? Are you using extension sockets/cables? Do you have a test socket you can plug into?

Re: Low speed at the moment?

Hello Jojo
Trying the test socket now (so cannot reply etc.). If you could test or whatever, that would be great. Thanks Jojo.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

HI Stogi,
Thanks for your time. Now everything is set up the way it is I've ordered an SNR reset. I'll keep checking for the progress on that and keep you updated when I know more.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

Hello Jojo
No, thank you Jo. I'll keep the router switched on and will not reset, as advised. Great speaking with you, thanks again for all your help.

Re: Low speed at the moment?

Hi Stogi,
Just checked and it seems to have worked. Your profile is now 12000. I've now upped the profile from our end so you should see the difference within the next 15 minutes.
