Low internet broadband speed..

Just connected to internet first time on Plusnet with the ethernet cable.
Did a speed test.. not impressed with the results, more or less the same speeds I was getting with my Tmobile dongle! that cant be right.
This is the results from the speed test.

to make sure that is right did a check with BT results below..

is there anything i can do to get greater speeds?

Hi Stylin,
I've checked your connection and everything appears to be running as it should. Could you run a test via http://speedtest.btwholesale.com and click further diagnostics after the test?
Let me know the results.

When you check my connection does it say what speeds I should be able to get?
did that test that you asked me to do.

just had a look around member centre
came across this..

That is saying my current line speed is 7.5 mb..
them test results that i posted in the first post are wrong maybe?

So:  Bt are giving an IP profile of 2Mbps and Plusnet are saying 7.15Mbps (that's the rate at which Plusnet send data to your connection to prevent overloading the connection with "waiting" data) Shocked As you are new, the 7.15 is based on the estimated 8Mbps and will, at some stage, be changed to follow the BT value (when an update gets received successfully by Plusnet).
What's needed now are the stats from your router - see the link from ReedRichards. This will provide better information for judging how your connection is performing relative to the estimates given and line characteristics.

So i am getting 7.5mb now? my connection will at some stage be changed to follow BT? so il go down to 2mb?! thats not good..
this is the dsl connection information i think this is what you wanted to see..

Try the BTwholesale speed test again, including the Further diagnostics. Your graphic shows you are synched at the full 8128 for ADSLMax and your IP profile and current line speed should both be 7.15.

Your (undated) BTw result in reply#3 had an IP profile of 2Mbps and the Plusnet IP profile shown was 7.5Mbps. My response was based on the information supplied and assuming they were of a similar time stamp. Your latest BTw result is completely different and  both IP profiles appear to match (assuming the PN profile hasn't changed - you have not provided that information).

I can see you have a phone fault open with us, it's very likely that has been affecting your speeds.
It looks, however like that should be resolved now so please let us know if things are any better.

I know exactly what this problem is. The bRAS set on our suppliers system is 'stuck' at 2000Kb.
I'll make sure that we get that shifted up for you.

much better results than before. upload isnt much better but i dont care much about that.
Just curious, if i was to go on the fibre broadband what speeds could i expect on that?

Fibre isn't available at your exchange I'm afraid so we'd not be able to give you an estimate.
