Re: Low download speed

Basically
When in your normal socket you had
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,312
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 37.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 24.0
But in the test socket you have
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 3,872
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 34.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 16.5
This tells us several things
Your internal wiring is really mucking up your speed
Because of the problems caused by your internal wiring the default noise margin has been increased to 15dB
The low sync of 1312kbps has pushed your IPprofile down to 1000kbps
If you want to use your normal socket you will need to sort out your internal wiring.
This is a good start http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm
Once that is fixed the default noise margin can be reset to 6dB which will give speeds of around 5000kbps
Are you sure that everything is filtered including a Sky box if you have one

Re: Low download speed

Correct,
Your line speed at your normal socket was 25% of the speed at the test socket.  This tells us that there is a problem between your test socket and your normal connection point.  You do not see an immediate improvement in speed when returning to the test socket due to the IP profile.  The IP profile is a speed profile where downwards changes happen almost instantly but positive changes can take a few days to take effect.
I would strongly recommmend you take a look at your internal wiring to see if any issues can be found that may cause a bad connection.

Re: Low download speed

OK, so assuming the router remains in the test socket, how long does it take for the speed to come right?
In the mean time i will check the wiring to the rest of the telephone points.  This is a new build house and i would have thought the wiring would be correct, but i will check.

Re: Low download speed

In most cases your IP profile will update within 72 hours.  The maximum time as per BT's documentation is 120 hours.

Re: Low download speed

Looking at your line stats we can see that the SNR is very high which is lowering your speed.  As the attenuation is fairly low and the line is stable I have submitted a request to reset your line.  This will cause your line to retrain over the course of the next 10 days with an aim to improve your speeds.

Re: Low download speed

Hi suke,
Since the router remains in the test socket it would be worth testing your line with an alternative modem/router.  Your line is errorring quite heavily which is causing your SNR to increase and your sync rate to decrease.  If you are already using a different router then you should raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net/ for investigation.  If you need us to send you a test router then let us know and we'll dispatch one for you.

Re: Low download speed

Alex
I am using the original router that was supplied by yourselves.  Can you send a test router and then lets see what happens!

Re: Low download speed

Best thing to do would be to raise a fault as Alex posted above - http://faults.plus.net. We'll test things from there for you and advise further, and will raise it to our suppliers for more investigation depending on what the test results show.
