Low broadband speed

I used to have a fast download speed but has been a lot slower of the last few month. Also the bt speed test would errored out on around 30% but today it work and shows I'm on IP Profile of 2 Mbps with a downstream connection rate of 8.13 Mbp:
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download  Speed
1.51 Mbps

0 Mbps 2 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.51 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8.13 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2 Mbps
The plusnet High-speed Broadband page show i've got a Current line speed of 7.15 Mb
I also tried with just the router connected to the master socket and all extensions disconnected
The router stats shows i'm syncing at 8,128 kbps:

Re: Low broadband speed

Stuck BT IP profile is your problem.
At some point your sync will have dropped low - no idea why - noise on line etc. Then it returned to 8128kbps when you re-sync'd.
But the profile remained at its low position.
Sometimes the profile gets stuck and it often occurs stuck at 2Mbps and often on lines which are at the full ADSLmax sync of 8128.
no one seems to know why - its a known problem on 20CN lines (those exchanges not yet upgraded to 21CN)
Need Plusnet staff to sort it out.

Re: Low broadband speed

Your up time is showing just over 1 hour - why? Disconnections can cause the BT equipment to think your line is unstable and it lowers your IP Profile.

Re: Low broadband speed

At that time I was checking the connection at the master socket and also reboot my router, otherwise it would have shown a long uptime.

Re: Low broadband speed

In that case I'd agree with x47c that a stuck profile is the most likely explanation. It's likely that you always sync at the same speed so there is no change to trigger the exchange to reset the profile. Sometimes they can be forced by syncing at a slow speed (I've done it in the past by using a very long extension telephone reel), and then syncing back at the normal speed.
You need to raise a fault and make sure you point out that your sync speed is OK, it's just that the profile is wrong and when they (inevitably) tell you it will rise by itself after three days that it has already been longer than that.
If you do try forcing a different sync, after you've done that don't do any more reconnects so that Plusnet can see a nice long connection time.
