Lost my internet shortly after midnight (9 Jan) for about 20 minutes, after reconnecting I checked for service statuses / notification of faults but found nothing.
http://community.plus.net/ping-graphs/ show at least one other user with the same loss of internet (and shorter drop around 2:45), now at work (on BT Business Broadband) and the router log shows exactly the same disconnections. Home is on Weston Favell exchange (Northampton) and work is on Duston exchange (Northampton) so not an exchange issue but must be local as most customers did not have this loss.
I have checked again for fault reports etc. but cannot find anything (maybe I'm being a bit thick and not looking in the right places).
Anyone else had this problem?
Anyone point me to a fault report?

Same here Ortons exchange (Peterborough) but I haven't reported it because I wondered if this would have affected us if BT maintenance was affecting Sheffield

I can confirm the disconnection shortly after midgnight definitely happened, as I was using it at the time!
Multiple attempts to reconnect had no effect, I eventually rebooted the router (Netgear WNR1000v3) to see if it would help, and by the time the browser refreshed, I had a connection.
While the reboot may have helped, it could also have been purely coincidental!
The BT Major Service Outages show nothing for my exchange, and I'm over 170 miles away (by road) from Sheffield, so I don't see why that should have affected me...

Thanks kmilburn, I also rebooted my router (after 20+ minutes of not connecting).
Are you also in the midlands area (East Midlands 'BT Region') by any chance?

I've had a look at all of the above connections and it looks like this is going to have been caused by maintenance, the maintenance that was carried out early this morning was quite a big one there is nearly always smaller maintenance work going on around the country. Fairly confident that this was maintenance.

Having just checked, I'm in the 'South West' region (but only just).
Maintenance does seem like the most likely reason, or a temporary glitch, but all appears well now.

Thanks for the reply chrispurvey.
Its a shame that BT can't change their maintenance schedule to start from 2am, so that it gives uscheapskates Value customers a chance to do our downloads after midnight
I'm currently learning how to communicate with the router, so that I don't always hit the On/Off button in a state of panic!

January can be quite a busy one for maintenance as they do as little as possible during December.
