Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Thanks Jojo. I'll let the line settle for a few days, then have a think about ADSL2+.
Incidentally, I can't correlate the times of some of the disconnections shown on the graph with what my router reports. For example:
i) At approx 7.30am 22/6/11 the router showed uptime of 2hrs 36min, implying a re-synch around 5am - not shown on your graph.
ii) At  approx 10pm 22/6/11 the router showed uptime of 17hrs  8min, whereas your graphs shows a disconnection at around11am that day.
The router and the graph do seem to agree though that the last incident was just before 5am yesterday morning: 1 day 11hrs 14min, and counting. . . .

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

HI Trevor,
I couldn't say why they don't correlate. I've seen some strange things from routers in my time. Remind me to check on Monday how it's performing and we'll see about ADSL2+

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Jojo, reminder as requested  Smiley
I've seen no more disconnections from this end, chalking up 4724 CRC errors over 4 days at 5,984kb/s at an SNR of around 10db. The SNR still seems to drop a bit during hours of darkness - whether this is anything to do with the streetlights  on the telegraph poles, I don't know.
If you think this line would perform okay on ADSL2+, then please go ahead.
Thanks for your help,
Trevor

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Hi Trevor,
It looks solid to me, I don't see why not. Do you want me to go for it?

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Just for info, my SNR seems to have ratcheted up again. Looks like I'm back to the 12dB target:

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

The speed has dropped back even further now. SNR target appears to be 15dB. The old line was never this bad!
I fear this does not bode well for the switch to ADSL2+ scheduled for tomorrow.
Stats as at 8:30am today:

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Well, the ADSL2+ upgrade went ahead as promised yesterday, with an initial synch of 448/7879 at an SNR of 9.5dB, and has survived the overnight period.
The SNR had dropped to 5.0dB by 10pm last night and 545 HEC errors chalked up over the first 10hrs.
AT 9am this morning, SNR is back up to 7.5dB with a total of 2300 HEC errors accumulated over the 21hrs uptime.
As far as I can see, this ought to be sustainable - if we could just persuade the DLM to leave things alone  Smiley
Meanwhile, BT profile is at 5000, and Plusnet profile still seems to be 4000. Any chance they could be given a nudge please?
Thanks Jojo for your help with this.

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

I've nudged the profile up to 7150 for you, that should improve things - hope ADSL2 works out alright for you and improves things.

Thanks Matt. It's looking promising at the moment - 1 day 5hrs and counting. . . .

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Two days in and the connection is still holding at 7876kb/s. However, the BT side of things doesn't seem to have noticed the change to ADSL2+. Hopefully I have managed to attach the results of a BT Speedtest illustrating this.
Will this sort itself out, or does it need a push?

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Okay, after the statutory 72hrs, my BT profile has now shifted to 6500, so all looks well.
Thanks to JoJo and Matt for sorting this out - here's hoping that everything holds up.

Re: Line switch: re-train required?

Glad to hear it's settled at a decent speed, thanks for letting us know.
Please post back if anything changes for the worse, or if there's anything else we can do to help Smiley
