Line stats and figures, good/bad, what does it mean ( error seconds etc etc)

I've got a moderate understanding of things such as Atenuation, attainable rate and actual speed, however when ive tried to find an explanation of things such as error seconds and if a certain figure is "good" or "bad" i hit a brick wall

These are my line stats from a Billion Bipac 8800nl r2 router on plusnets ADSL2+ service, any comments

The only thing which really stands out is the downstream noise margin which implies a default noise margin of 3dB and is probably the reason for the high error seconds

You could try installing DSL Stats http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,17593.0.html and look at the error rates and noise margin changes

Error seconds is the main measure by which the DLM decides to make (or not make) adjustments to the line parameters to try to stabilise the connection at the best possible speed.

Although the number showing on your connection is very high, there is also the uptime those ES were accumulated over to consider, especially if your router is one of those which doesn't reset the ES count on a resync (as distinct from a reboot, which would reset the ES count.)

You haven't said whether you are actually experiencing poor throughput or dropouts on your connection  - you could make a case for leaving everything as it is if it seems to be performing well.

Because the DLM seems to insist on a 3dB target SNRM on my connection despite a 5dB D/S SNR drop every evening after dark (search me ) I manually resynched after dark 18 days ago and now have a 8-9dB SNRM during daylight hours, and 3-4 after dark, which means the connection is currently stable, albeit with a slightly lower sync speed.

If you are worried about your ES count you could try an after-dark resync to try to increase the SNR headroom it is operating with if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of speed (not much point doing that if you know your last resync was actually after dark though!)
