So before I go to work this morning I download a few files at my usual speed of 1.0MB/s (~10Mb) and all is fine and dandy. I get home tonight, go to update Elite: Dangerous and find that my line-speed has been dropped to 6.6Mb and as a result my download speed is gimped at around 650Kbps.

Now I don't know about your maths skills, but mine says that 6.6 is not in between 8.5 and 11.5 is it?
Edited to add, even my upload speed has dropped. It's down from it's usual 1100Kbps to 743Kbps.

Have you tried any troubleshooting yet?

Your line is showing a few errors, so it's worth listening for noise on the phone line by dialling 17070 and doing the quiet line test.

No, there's no noise on the line. What do you mean by "errors"?
