I find the BNGs give me slightly better throughput but the latency is higher.
I have only been trying low response sites like bbc.co.uk, so I will try some others to see if they are comparable with different gateways.
I am a little baffled about how George gets 4ms on a BNG. We're on the same product on the same exchange - so we should be able to get the same, I would have thought.

Ask George to do another ping test here!
@ AndyH I don't understand why old gateway lower throughput than the new gateway?

I don't think I would notice a gateway throughput difference on my 6.7Mbps ADSL1 20CN line
I'll stick with the lower latency PTN

Share your postcodes? It could well be a difference in backhaul back to the datacentres.

as i have said here before I regularly swap gateways to find one where i get a good game connection which also seams to depend on time of day
i sometimes find a gateway which for me plays well for several days but then for some reason it deteriorates so i just hop to the next gateway
samsung 850evo 250gig , WD black 2 TB . Asus Phoebus sound ,
16 gig Avexir ram 2400 , water cooling Corsair H100i gtx ,
Corsair 750HXI Psu , Phanteks Enthoo pro case .

I'm MK15 and George is MK5 something (I think). We only live a few miles apart.
As I said to Paul ages ago, this is not a problem for me but it's worth looking at in case it affects people. I assume it's the way the traffic comes through the BT Wholesale network.

In general though, all the other BNG gateways are 1-2ms higher for me. As you say, not much, but higher.

current ping is
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 4ms
@AndyH
When I had my 4 month long speed issues, you were not affected in the slightest. During that time I had my line moved between VLANs and the line card in the exchange replaced. So yes same product (FTTP) but not necessarily the same configurations.

I'm on the same gateway as George now, but my ping times are high (4-5ms to bbc.co.uk). I'm assuming that this is all down to the BT routing.
