Laptops don't work wirelessly - other devices do!

Hello all. We recently set up our PlusNet router fine, but we've discovered that our laptops will not connect wirelessly. It finds the network, but does not connect. The network works fine with an ethernet cable, though, and other devices such as our phones and the PS4 connects wirelessly just fine.
Thoughts?

You need to ensure your laptops :
1/have wireless connectivity turned on, obviously
2/correct router/modem password has been entered in each device to match the router
3/have you clicked the wireless icon normally in bottom right hand corner of laptop screen; does it tell
you network/s are available; have you clicked on link offered, and followed instructions? Undecided

Thanks for the response
I'm not even offered the chance to put the password in, it attempts to connect and then says it's unavailable. Before our router arrived I was using my phone as a hotspot and connecting wirelessly to that perfectly.

Are laptops seeing a wireless connection being available?
Does your router have wireless switched on?

Yes, it attempts to connect and fails. And yes, wireless is enabled. Our phones and the PS4 can connect wirelessly absolutely fine.

Plusnet don't object to you using third party routers or your previous ISP's router  Smiley

We don't have any other router, just our new official plusnet one.
Still stuck with this issue.

Sorry for the late reply, log on to the router. go to advanced settings, Wireless, 5Ghz, untick the sync with 2.4Ghz, and add a 5 or something to the SSID of the 5Ghhz so you r devices know which connection they are making. Newer devices can opt for the 5Ghz channels, older ones the 2.4.

Hmmm, not sure what else to suggest, something not quite right on the laptop settings, could be antivirus, firewall, or something strange, any error messages? More details of the laptops/Windows version/Anti Virus and so on.

Re: Laptops don't work wirelessly - other devices do!

We've managed to connect to the internet before on our seperate laptops and different locations - we've just moved into our own first house together. No settings have been changed on either laptops. We're both running Windows 8. The network can be found, and upon clicking "Connect", it'll get as far as "Checking network requirements" and after a few seconds will read "Can't connect to this network". It's a shame we don't have more devices to test what does and doesn't work, but so far it's just our laptops that don't (without an Ethernet cable)
