Lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm?

Does anyone else experience lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm? Or is it just me?
I get this everyday...
I play Cabal Online (german version) www.cabal.de and plusnet wont prioritize the connection to the German version because it's not popular enough  Cry
(It is popular, just not in the UK xD)
Anyone have any advice of what I can do to fix this problem?

sorry to say but the internet in general is normally busy at that time.
The only way to get it running  better is to go to the pro package where every thing runs at full speed, but it only has 20G allowance during peak

Re: Lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm?

Yeah I wish I could but 20GB is not enough for me :<... Like 4 people using inet in my house
Billing Period          Paid-for usage  Free usage        Total usage
11 Sep - 11 Oct       38.19GB           15.63GB           53.82GB
11 Aug - 11 Sep      41.81GB            26.94GB            68.75GB
11 Jul - 11 Aug          44.24GB            38.28GB           82.52GB

Saying that I should probally switch to the 60GB option (11.49) since I pay 19.99 for 80GB atm

Hi MyNameIsRay,
because of the market area you are in the 60gig package would be £17.99 for you I'm afraid.

Have Plusnet actually refused to prioritise the game?  That's quite surprising, as they are usually very amenable to doing so.
Have you submitted a Wireshark capture for it?

Yeah, they said something along the lines of:
I am sorry but we are unable to prioritize the connection for this game as it is not popular enough...
But that was several months ago, in my current ticket they asked me for a wireshark capture so maybe this time they will do it.
It's in the silver traffic queue :<

I have another question... Shocked
What would give me the best connection? (for gaming)
1: Having my router downstairs and using wireless to my computer upstairs
or
2: feeding the telephone cable from the downstairs socket, up through roof/floor to the router upstairs and then connect the router to my computer via a small Ethernet cable
(Currently using option 2 but don't know if it is the best option)

Hi MyNameIsRay,
In answer to your question, neither of those. The best option would be to leave the router in the master socket and run an ethernet cable rather than a telephone extension cable upstairs.

Second best would probably be router downstairs and use powerline adapters rather than wireless.

Even if the Ethernet is about 6-7m long?
If so then I guess that's what I will do =o

Re: Lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm?

interference on the input (and entering amplifier stages)of your router  is a lot worse  than  having interference  on its output (ethernet side)
so i'm running  a 5 metre  patch cord Ethernet cable  from  the router  downstairs(which   is immediately next to BT's master socket)
I'm using the short ADSL telephone  cable i got with with router in the box to connect to the bt socket and the patch cable runs to an Ethernet card  that came with  the PC that is upstairs
and it works fine

Re: Lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm?

You might start to get problems if the ethernet cable was very long, say over 100m - just how big is your house?
Try to get CAT 5e rather than CAT 5.
Edit: The cable I'm using is I think 15m and it's absolutely fine. I have a Netgear FS105 at the far end to allow multiple computers to be connected.
Incidentally I've found there's a major, major problem with the FS105 if you drop it - it makes holes in the carpet.
Edit 2: I've just looked for the spec. - 100m is the maximum for Cat 5e

Re: Lag between 8:30pm - 10:00pm?

If you think you might at some stage want faster than 100Mb links you need Cat 6 for up to 1Gb (length up to 100m) or Cat 7 if you are planning on going stupid with 10Gb. They are all backward compatible. If Cat 6 doesn't cost much more than 5e go for it.

Yes, I would definitely say that was the best set up.
