Kitz Speed calculator says i should be getting a better connection?

When putting in my stats on the kitz speed calculator  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
I get this:
Downstream  Attenuation 25dbm, approx line length 1.8km
DSL MAX 8128kbps, ip profile 7150kbps
BT21CN WBC&ADSL 2+ 18144kbps  IP Profile 16003kbps
From that I'm guessing that i should have an IP profile of 16Mbps which should give me a realistic performance of 15.5 ( or so ) Mbps  which puts me roughly  in line with what neighbours etc are getting ( 14-17mbps)
However im only getting about 10.5Mbps
The plusnet speed tester says this:

BT speed test says this:

Is this right? or shold i be getting a better speed/signal?
Is this because im using an old poor quality router ( TG582n) and would ther ebe an improvement if i purchased another router? or would i be wasting my money?
Bloke down the pub says I've been with the same company ( plusnet ) for too long and the equipment at the exchange may have gone stale (???) so i need to move to a new company that will put "fresh kit in the exchange" ( either after some sort of referal sign up or been drinking too much????)

I take it that this isnt worth bothering with.
  Virgin media are busy digging away outside, starting to lay cables, that may be the better option when the time comes.

You would get better speed if you could reduce the number of errors being detected on your phone line.

Those stats show that your TG582n is doing a pretty good job for the current line conditions, so until those errors are reduced, buying another router is unlikely to show any improvement in your sync speeds.

Nope, you just have a noisy connection.

You would get similar results if you move to another ISP which uses BT supplied connections,  however there is a chance that your sync speed might improve if you moved to an LLU (non-BT) internet service - as the line management is often less severe on LLU connections.

The first thing you need to try is moving the modem physically next to the "MASTER SOCKET", use the shortest RJ11 cable that you have to connect the modem to the "TEST SOCKET" (located behind the screw-on faceplate of your MASTER socket), and record the ADSL stats (as you did above), and see whether that shows an improvement.

The router/modem is connected to a mastersocket that looks like this

I can unscrew all the Mk3 stuff and go straight into the test socket however that makes no difference.

When you say it "makes no difference",  do you mean to your speedtest results, or do you mean to the modem sync speed ?

It would be worth asking Plusnet staff to post in this thread, the graph showing your line connection/disconnections, to get an idea of how stable your broadband is,  because from your stats I would say that having 707 errored seconds in under two days seems quite high but gives no indication whether they were dispersed or whether they happened all at the same time.

The 707 Errored Seconds over the 2 days makes the MTBE = (47*60*60+58*60+44)/707 = 244, which is reasonably acceptable, especially without any FEC+interleaving to correct errors.
It would only be a problem with the 582n if this particular one were faulty (or perhaps if its own power supply were chucking out a lot of interference).
