It's not unknown for Plusnet to have a customer on the wrong profile.
Have you raised a ticket to bring this to Plusnet's attention through the official route?
Not yet i am new to forums and all this stuff. Before with aol i just plugged in and surfed.

OK. The router should be fine, and the basic PC specification as well.
What wireless adapter are you using and what signal strength/speed is the link?
Have you tried with the PC linked directly to the router with a LAN cable, assuming the PC has an ethernet port?

Netgear WG111 v2 and signal strength is ver good. I have not tried it with the LAN cable.

Re: Just switched from AOL to plusnet for higher speed and not getting it

Can you check in the router (I think under WAN setup) and check what you have set for MTU. If it's not 1500, try setting it to that.

Re: Just switched from AOL to plusnet for higher speed and not getting it

Has that made any difference?
If not, can you try wired?

If going wired makes no significant difference DrTCP is next!  Crazy

If you changed the router MTU you need to reboot it.
What did you change the MTU to on the PC?

Re: Just switched from AOL to plusnet for higher speed and not getting it

Have a look here.
An MTU of 1430 with a receive window of 166800 is worth trying (certainly works for me!).

Re: Just switched from AOL to plusnet for higher speed and not getting it

Just to clarify/summarise a bit:
1. Try it with a cable rather than wireless
2. Check/adjust the RWIN - mine is 116000 (with an MTU of 1498 in both router and PC)
3. Check/adjust MTU - run ping tests if you can
These are my personal preferences of the order to do things, others may have different equally valid ideas.
Notes:
1. Use DrTCP to change RWIN; this is a global figure for all network adapters in the PC.
2. I found (via ping tests) that an MTU of 1500 was "flaky" so I use 1498
3. Change your router MTU via router admin (sounds like you've discovered how)
4. Change your PC MTU with Dr TCP - you need to select the appropriate adapter before saving!
5. An MTU can be too high, if in doubt reduce it a bit and try again (steps of 10 say)
6. An RWIN can be too low. There are several different recommendations I've seen based on MTU and line speed. Mine is around 100000 and I note another recommendation of 166800.
Only change 1 thing at once!  Cheesy
