Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Just did a soft disconnect, powered down, and waited 10 mins. reconnected. here are line stats immediately following connection:
Quote
Uptime:
0 days, 0:00:11

DSL Type:
ITU-T G.992.5

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:
443 / 11.791

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [B/B]:
0 / 0

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:
12,4 / 20,9

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:
17,4 / 38,0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:
31,2 / 6,1

System Vendor ID (Local/Remote):
TMMB / ----

Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote):
BDCM / IFTN

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):
0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):
0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote):
0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote):
-

Error Seconds (Local/Remote):
0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down):
0 / 0

CRC Errors (Up/Down):
0 / 0

HEC Errors (Up/Down):
0 / 6

and BTWholesale checker:
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 9.06 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 10.4 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.32Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps

The speed test seems better, and indeed BBC HD will stream without interruption now. It is still 3meg slower than before, Should i ask them to try and manually set my profile? and put me on fast path to improve ping times?

Looking better. Your current line speed needs to be bumped up and if you'd like your upstream uncapping post back and hopefully a DCT member will pick this up.

That seems actually implausible given the attenuation. 38dB should indeed run at about 10mbps.
(unless BT have added 400 metres to your line by rerouting it around the exchange a few times  Crazy )
Do you have any stats saved from your Be router to compare?
PS Don't forget to ask for upstream tro be uncapped.  Wink

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Seems I spoke to soon.
My connection's dropped out twice in the last hour Sad
New stats:

Link Information

DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 443 / 10.659

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,6 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 17,4 / 38,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 30,9 / 6,3

Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 767 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 282
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 92

So definitely a line fault of some description? Is this even possible, I've literally changed nothing my end. Or perhaps a duff technicolor router? Sad
Edit: Alas, no stats from my BE router. When I say my old connection was 3meg quicker, I mean that a typical download speed would have been 1.2Mb/s - Whereas now it seems to peak at 900K/s

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Your are currently on Fastpath (FEC errors =0) although the default setting for Interleaving will be Auto. If you are a Gamer you can request it be turned to Off.
Is the Filter plugged direct into the Master socket? I assume you aren't using extension leads from socket to filter or filter to modem/router?
It sound like you need to be clear on your fault ticket that you've got a dropping connection and that is the primary problem.

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

I've updated the support ticket with all of the info.
I think it's probably an exchange Issue. during the evening the BTw speedtest maxes at 4meg - daytime it's fine.
I'll just cross my fingers that they can fix it  Cheesy
And yeah, It's a new router, new filter, and it's been in the test socket for the last 2 days. so It's either Plusnet or the exchange at this point.  Embarrassed

Wish I could get Fibre  Embarrassed
I was referring to this: http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/
I assume the ones at the top of the list are the ones that people are reporting issues with, So i can't be alone! Smiley

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

The dropping connection won't be Plusnet, they can't affect your wires to the exchange.  The low download speed could be the Gateway you are on. Or, both problems could be an exchange fault  Roll_eyes
As far as the most popular exchange searches go, I guess that could be just Usertools users rather than the whole country, I'm not sure, but I know a man that may know  Wink

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

The Exchange Checker Top 10 table reflects only searches made using the Usertools checker.
The list shows the Top 10 exchange names entered in the text box (directly, by telephone number or by post code) in the last 32 days. The number shown is the number of searches.
Though the 20CN VP status is shown this has no bearing on whether the exchange name appears, or doesn't appear in the list.

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Hi Chris, thanks for responding to my ticket. no disconnections today touch wood,
My speed tests seem good when I get home from work, but as soon as it gets to around this sort of time my BTw speedtest is lower.
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6.77 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 9.4 Mbps

Better than previous days, but still low enough to cause iPlayer (SD) to buffer occasionally.

You are currently connected to gateway pcl-ag01.
This is located in City Lifeline House.

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Keep checking which Gateway you are on, especially after you notice a disconnection. I'd be interested to see if you check your IP Address if it changes every time or not (unless you've paid to have a fixed IP address). If you find speeds particularly bad, try a Gateway hop by logging into the modem.router, clicking Disconnect in the Internet box, wait 30 seconds and then click Connect.

Re: Just joined from Be. Awful speed?

Sigh.
I am now convinced my peak-time slowdown is an exchange issue.  - I've done multiple BTW speedtests (including the third test involving disconnecting the router and entering BT's speedtest username)
This of course means that it is indeed nothing to do with Plusnet, and wholly to do with BTWholesale.  I have an engineers visit scheduled for next week, but unless he's planning on staying for the evening I can't see how he's going to experience the fault.
I wish I'd never left the land of LLU. Where do I stand in regards to leaving Plusnet?
