Am I happy with my speeds...

Getting even better !

462 metres from Exchange.
Any faster and I'll have to bolt my iMac to the bench.
(And only 5 hours into day one of ten)

Re: Just connected at 16mb/s

Just for comparison, mine went from around 1.0Mbps (only on good days) download speed last week, on an old legacy PAYG ADSL account (2GB limit, unrestricted speed - Haha!!!! & £16+ per month plus an extra £2 for every 2GB extra usuage, usually ended up around £20+ per month) to around 30Mbps download speed on Value Fibre (40GB limit & less than £17 per month).
I can now download a 15MB file in around 6 seconds. It used to take a few minutes.
Even at traffic managed times it is much, much, much better than I have ever previously experienced & all for a bit less than I used to pay!.
Plusnet estimated a conservative download speed of 15Mbps. BT's Infinity checker said Fibre wasn't even planned for my area in the next 6 months!

Re: Just connected at 16mb/s

Ask to have your upstream uncapped - you should get around 3 times faster upstream, and you should notice an effect on the downstream as well, not just on speed tests but on actual "feel" when loading web pages.

Re: Just connected at 16mb/s

Upstream increase not for me I'm afraid.
Spoke to a very knowledgable and nice technical chap, and by increasing my upstream, I lose some downstream speed.
I find 342kb/s more than adequate for me, out of the 448kb/s max.
Thanks anyway.

There are anecdotal stories that downstream speed is affected when upstream is uncapped but I would say it's not generally the case.

If you do lose anything, it will not be a lot.
Here's mine:

My synch rate is 1164 / 16045 (up / down) and has been connected for 37 days 6 hours 31 mins 45 secs. When I first joined PlusNet I initially didn't notice the capped upstream until I tried to upload something. It was uncapped on request and much better for it.

I'm more than twice your distance from my own exchange, and uncapping upstream had no effect on downstream whatsoever. Sync speed, throughput and reliability remain exactly the same as when it was capped.

I had my upstream uncapped and I lost over 2Mbps, I was syncing as high as 12000 and now I can just scrape 9000.

If you do lose downstream speed when having the upstream uncapped (very unlikely, as upstream and downstream use different frequencies) you can always ask to have the upstream capped again.
