Re: Java an XP SP3

So it must be BT colluding with IE to produce a non-standard implemntation? Again?

Re: Java an XP SP3

Its more likely that they've broken something on the tester and its just a fluke that IE is badly written enough that it still works.

Re: Java an XP SP3

Who writes Java?  if you click the upgrade link, even though FF is my default it opens in I.E.  Dont know what Happens on Linux, as my implementation is only on an Eeepc 4g, which you can only upgrade if you are a genius.

We are currently investigating a problem with the automated faults checker available on our website.
Reported faults are not being correctly handled by our system which is leading to delays when responding to broadband faults that have been reported to us.
Our development team are working to resolve the problem and further details will be provided as they become available.

For me, I have never been able to access that test with Firefox but it always works with IE7.

Re: Java an XP SP3

It seems to be good enough to get your profile - but since PN already know that, If I have a problem,
I submit several PlusNet speedchecker results, which I run every couple of days and tell them that the BT speedchecker is rubbish (it's clearly written for Microsoft only use).

Re: Java an XP SP3

I'm sure it's no consolation but the BTspeedtester works fine here (20 minutes ago) using Firefox 3.0.1, WindowsXP SP3 and Java Plug-in 1.6.0_07 and JRE 1.6.0._07.
This appears to be the same combination that pierre_pierre is having problems with.

Re: Java an XP SP3

Could be that BT have upgraded their program to Jave 6.07

    Your DSL connection rate: 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5707 kbps

I think that's the most likely explanation. It also works for me.

Probably not.  The most recent applet is dated February 2008

Re: Java an XP SP3

But BT should not require any particular version of Java to work - other sites manage to cope.

Re: Java an XP SP3

I think we should simply be grateful that no one has changed anything but the configuration works now whereas it didn't before. Such miracles are not unknown in the IT industry.

You mean that BT/Sun or somebody have finally managed backwards compatibility!
