Java an XP SP3

I have recently installed SP3 - thought I had no problems.
But trying to run the renowned speedtest.bt.com, which always ran for me, I am getting a message in the first white box, of a red cross in a box and "Applet tickeaplet2 notinited" in the bottom bar, eventually javascript failed.
I have reinstalled java - 7 but still no luck,  Firefox or I.E.
Any clues?

Re: Java an XP SP3

May not help but when Java updates it doesn't remove older versions.
Try going into add remove programs and remove all the older versions

Re: Java an XP SP3

I've just completed a successful test using Java 1.6.0_07 with IE7 on XP Home SP3. AVG Free AV, Comodo Firewall, Spyware Terminator real-Time-Shield.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5813 kbps
Has the file you mentioned been corrupted or is it missing?

I also have 1.6.0_07-b06, but I'm using IE7. Java is sat waiting something to do in my case, current console contents are as follows (section listing commands omitted):

Re: Java an XP SP3

Pierre,
This is an interesting article. It doesn't suggest getting rid of the earlier versions, but the later one Huh
http://www.java-samples.com/showtutorial.php?tutorialid=673
Another site, said that creating a new XP user profile worked as well, although IMHO that's a bit extreme.

Re: Java an XP SP3

Another thing...
Have you gone into the Java settings via control panel and deleted the applets?

On the General tab, View... You can right-click and delete them
Not tried it, just a thought...

Re: Java an XP SP3

Same problem here (on IE7) also cured by deleting all the Java temporary files.
