- Flashing red Internet light, manual says that means I am not online. Ok how have I been watching a on demand streams and posting this.
- The Routers Login can't be cookied, tried with both IE9 and Opera 12.10, after 10 minutes or so the cookied username/pw fail to work.
- edit: When logging in, I type my Username and Password then automatically hit return. But that doesn't work I have to move my hand away from the keyboard to use my mouse to click ok, why? Clicking return is more intuitive to me.
- Manual has no information on how to save a backup of the firmware, or update it. The first things I do when getting a new router.
- Nightmare to find anything via its web controls, nothing is intuitive. I thought my old Buffalos web controls were bad, but this easily wins the lemming prize
- Lack of choice as to modulation etc, as in there is None. It is your way or nothing
- The router is trying to port scan 192.168.1.253, why?

Hi Gus,
When did you notice that happen? The only way I'd Imagine that might happen is if the connection was dropping in and out very quickly.
I've also noticed that, I've been advised that this should be fixed in the latest firmware release.
Why would you need to change that? Not all routers AFAIK would allow you to change that manually.
What's made you assume that's happening? I can't imagine why the router would try and port scan anything, I wonder if you've had a device previously connected that's been assigned that IP though?

There is a thread about the flashing red light, it is a bug
I use Last Pass to automate these logins - set it to autologin and it should just do it. (most of the time anyway)
There are also several threads on this router - nuff said.

As far as the port scan, the firewall log had a entry about 192.168.1.254[the router] attempting to scan 192.168.1.253. Never used that IP address on my lan.
Additional issue after looking for it in the logs, they don't hold much as it has already been shunted out. Could do with a way to not log some events e.g. SNTP.
The router having the correct time is all good, but a bit over kill

Yes, checking time accuracy every 60 minutes is excessive and unnecessary. You can reduce the poll interval to once per day (1440 minutes) by telnetting into the router from a command prompt and running
:sntp config poll=1440
as mentioned here. I don't have a TG582n but time on my TG585v8 was spot on after 24 hours.
You can also display more log entries by running
:systemlog show
The output from that is likely to print more lines than the command prompt window can store. Running
mode con cols=100 lines=1000
before telnet will increase the size of this buffer.
Edit: correct syntax of mode command

Thanks spraxyt, changed it to update every 24 hours. Still would be better if we could choose what it logs.
As for the red internet light, noticed Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 1 / 0 from the connection stats, but no loss of connection in the logs or showing on the TBB monitor.
Currently on a 3 or 10 day retrain after a phone line fix, agent wasn't clear as he didn't know which was being used, different department, so unwilling to do any reboots to see how good this line is now.
