Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

Hi all.

I am considering options for DV etc on my ADSL line., one of which is to transfer to BT. EE do not serve where I live apparently. I have seen references to special terms for PN customers transfering to BT, but not with in any detail.

Does anyone know if there really are special transfer terms for PN customers moving to BT, and if so what they are?

Any info will help my decision making.

Many thanks in advance.

@Archer

If you organise it through PN they will waive any early termtnation charges involved.

Phone the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to check what's available.

@Archer I find it strange to believe that the 'EE' option is not available to you - my understanding is that that brand is specifically aimed at the domestic internet market, whilst the 'BT' brand is for business.

@Archer

I should have added that if you leave PN you will lose your analogue phone line and any PN add ons you may have, like email.

I understand that this is the strategy for the future. Currently the BT brand for retail 'broadband' and digital phone is still being actively marketed.

Cheers, @Baldrick1 . As I have no interest in BT Group products, I admit that I was merely going on what I recalled from something I read a while back, and then half forgot. Apologies for any confusion caused. 😉

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

Marketing from BT Group puzzels me.

On the EE issue, I have checked with EE several times and confirmed that they do not serve my address. They believed the reason is that it is an ADSL connection and no fibre planned.

All food for thought

Thank you everyone.

@Archer   I think the problem is that you are https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome on ADSL, which EE seem to no longer do. That said when I checked the BTW DSL checker, that showed ADSL no longer available.

It would be worth checking to see what the BTW site says for your address.

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

Very few ISPs offer ADSL (or SOADSL as it is now) at all now. Plusnet and EE gave up some time ago, and even Zen don't have any broadband available in my area. Fortunately we do have Gigaclear - BT could offer 6Mbps SOADSL but no other OR based ISPs that I recognise offer anything at all.

I think everyone in areas like mine are being abandoned by OR, as the low population density and build costs don't make any business sense.

Update: I just double checked BT offering for my address - it is now 5-7Mbps ADSL for £29.99pm, or 15Mbps 4G for £53.73pm, or 30Mbps 4G for £75.48pm, all on 24 month contracts.

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

I checked the BTW site.

SOADSL in not restricted.

Looks like my choice, when the time comes, is between,

PN with no PSTN service

PN with DIY VOIP

BT with DV

or some company I've never heard of.

At least I have time to think about it.

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

@Archer as you currently have ADSL, can Plusnet actually provide SOADSL if you recontract? I'm not aware of anyone that has signed up for SOADSL with Plusnet, and it isn't certainly available from Plusnet here (they only offer SODALL).

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

@Archer

As you state, you have some time to consider your options. If a contract renewal comes up in the meantime you should be able to re-contract "as is" if so desired but it may also be the right time to sort things out. It would allow you to consider other ISP's if you find any willing to take your connection on.

Note that VOIP doesn't work in power cuts. If a landline is required you'd need power backup for the router and phone to keep it going.

If you choose to stay with PN do not initiate a phone number transfer until your connection is confirmed as being on SOADSL.

If you get a decent mobile signal (for outgoing calls) consider A&A for VOIP.

@bmc, but do Plusnet actually offer SOADSL? I've not heard of anyone that has moved to it, and it isn't offered in my area although that is the only OR product available.

I've not found any mention of it being available or used in the fora.

Re: Is there a special transfer deal for PN Customers moving to BT?

@corringham

If @Archer  phones COTS as I suggested in post #2 then they'll be able to confirm exactly waht's available from PN.
