Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Just wondering if anybody from PN can check my line profile and see if I'm on the fastest possible or whether it can be bumped up a notch, I know I'm near the top end but seem to be attaining slightly faster speeds on the day it was installed. The line seems fairly stable (rough average one drop in 3 days or so) Thanks

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Can you run the BT speed test - http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/
After the initial speed check, then hit the [Further Diagnostics] button,
then enter your phone number, and hit [Run Diagnostic Test].
After a few tens of seconds, it should display the "Test Results" page.
Can you then copy the results from within the box, which includes the BT IP profile for your line,
and paste the text into your reply in this thread.

Can you also look at you Plusnet "Current line speed" from here - https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
and copy and paste just that information into this thread as well (but don't paste your telephone number here !).

Tests via Ethernet cable.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
73.29 Mbps

Download speedachieved during the test was - 73.29 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 16 Mbps-77.44 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.44 Mbps
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
14.65 Mbps

20 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 14.65Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

--------------
Plusnet Line speed link:
Current line speed:
    77.4 Mb

---------
SPEEDTEST.NET: Ealing Server:
72.79 Mb/s Down 18.58 Mb/s Up 13 ms Ping
---------
When the BT engineer was here his test read the full 80/20

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

That IP profile is a sync speed of 80Mbps (you multiply the IP profile by 1.0333 to get the sync speed) and the Plusnet profile matches it

Excellent, happy with that as I'm 500m from exchange and about 150m from cabinet Smiley

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

I'm fascinated when I read a thread like this one - an honest question to the OP - What difference would it make to your online experience if you got ,say, 76Mb, rather than your current  73.3Mb? Is anything currently limited at those speeds?Huh
Sent on my ~ 6.2Mb connection!!

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Sorry to butt in this thread but can someone tell me if my speed is ok? I used to be able to get over 8mb but when I signed up to unlimited adsl it dropped to around 5.5mb. Can I expect anything better with some tweaks from Plusnet?
Thanks fo any advice.

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Rather than splitting your post off - as the original question has been answered - can you post the stats from your router - noise margin, speeds and attenuation
Note that at first glance you should be able to get the upload uncapped

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

It is and at a guess your default noise margin has increased from 6dB to 9dB why isn't obvious
You could ask for the upload to be uncapped - should about double the effective speeds
From your speed tests the test result was above the IP profile and I can think of only one reason why that could be - your Plusnet profile hasn't yet dropped to 5.8Mbps to match the IP profile - you can check that here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed it is described as Current Line Speed
Possible reasons for the increase in noise margin are excessive errors or instability - have you been disconnecting the router frequently

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

My router has been disconnected a few times last week. A power failure once and I restarted it again when BB usage showed incorrect figures. I thought  that would do the trick. I was wrong on that Smiley
To get the upload uncapped I have to raise a ticket?
I don't suppose I can double the download speed as well?

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Hi there,
If you'd like the upload uncapping I don't mind picking it up and placing the order from here, just confirm you'd like to go ahead (it'll take 24 hours or so).

Order placed, it should have completed by tomorrow morning (but might be any time up to midnight). Hope it helps Smiley

Re: Is my line profile the fastest I can get?

Thanks Matt. Worked beautifully! Shame I can't get the download speed "uncapped"  Cry 10 MB instead of 5 MB would be lovely.
