Is my ip profile right, 47.43mbps on a 73mbps package?

Hi, When I started out with Plusnet I got line speeds in excess of 70mbps but over the last few months I have been struggling to get above 50mbps. A friend of mine who lives on the same road, further away from the cabinet is still getting 70+.
He lead me to the BTWholesale line checker and after switching everything off I ran the tests and found
Download speedachieved during the test was - 46.31 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 40 Mbps-47.43 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 47.43 Mbps
Is this correct, doesn't this limit me to 47.43mbps, shouldn't it be closer to 70?
I have also raised a ticket ref: 83099067 but have been told that I may get a faster response posting here.

Hi Paul,
I've taken a look over your line and your profile set by the DLM (Dynamic Line Management) is set to 25M-49M Downstream, Interleaving Low. As you're currently syncing at 49Mb/s we'd need to get the profile changed.
We need to get an engineer to manually reset this. We've got your support ticket raised so I'll pass this to the relevant team for them to pick up.

that's great thanks, is there anyway of telling how long it has been like this?
It feels like a long time that I have been paying for 70 and getting 50

As far as I can see it's been like that for some months, this is something that we have little control over and it's really there to help improve and stabilise a connection.
I'd imagine your line will have suffered from either a bout of disconnections or has errored at some point which led to the profile change.  See the DLM guide for more info.

Re: Is my ip profile right, 47.43mbps on a 73mbps package?

Prolly caused by a bit of electrical work going on at my house months back but the link says
BT send us reports of profile changes several times a day, so speeds should return to normal once we've updated our system with the new profile (usually within 24 hours).
That seems to suggest that the profile should have been put back but never was. I feel a msg to Customer Services coming on 🙂

The reports we get are for your Plusnet speed profile, you can see yours here.
The reports we have received for your line have been below 49Mb/s as that was what your line was syncing at. It shouldn't be an issue for us to get this sorted.

out of interest after reading this, the line speed profile goes down automatically  if you have line/connection issues, but don't go up unless you request a manual profile change?

@pantsman28 The profile should increase again after again which can take a few days to happen. SNR resets can otherwise be done (assuming the connection is stable) however for an FTTC connection this needs an engineer to attend the cab.

Does that mean I need to have an engineer out to sort out this problem?

Yes, although we can notify the engineer to do the DLM reset that wouldn't require a visit to your premises unless required.

Faults Tickets are answered within 48-72 hours.
In this instance, I'll pick this up now and get the DLM Reset arranged.

Re: Is my ip profile right, 47.43mbps on a 73mbps package?

We've booked an engineer for tomorrow, they will go to the exchange and reset your line, there should be no need for the engineer to attend your premises.
We've updated your ticket to reflect this.
