the results of my BT speed checker:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1306 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2848 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
we had lots of trouble with the broadband when we moved here 10 months ago, and were without broadband for over a month, it turned out Plusnet had me on the wrong dmain... whatever that means... a lovely guy from BT (who was working over the road) cam and checked the line...he turned off all the extension sockets, so we just have the master socket with a Netgear router in...both the PC and hubbys laptop are connected wirelessly.

If possible can you describe where your router is plugged into and the telephone wiring, e.g. is it plugged into an extension or where the telephone line comes into the house?
If it helped click the thumb
If it fixed it click 'This fixed my problem'

From my router
Noise Margin: 10.8 dB
Connection Rate: 3200 Kbps
Line Attenuation: 53.0 dB
Note the higher speed but with a much higher attenuation
Can you plug the router into the test socket and report the stats

We also had telephone extensions hardwired in each bedroom, but when the BT openreach guy came, he disconnected them, as they were casuing all sorts of trouble (at the time we had no broadband connection, and the landline was very noisy) this sorted out the landline problems, and thebroadband turned out the be plusnets fault. So we just have the one master socket now, with nothing else attached.
Right, I've connected through the test socket and these are the line stats:

Bt speed checker again (just incase I needed to re do it)

WAN PPPoA 1053827 1376756 0 262 1824 205:58:55
which shows an internet up time of 205 hours

Quote from: clairesdog My router is sat on the windowsill immediately above the master telephone socket, it has one filter with just the router in one side and cordless telephone base in the other side. No sky or anything.

It would be good to see a set of line stats with the PC or Laptop wired (using the ethernet cable) into the router in order to eliminate any issues with your wireless setup.
The downstream noise margin has increased to 18dB for some reason, probably due to line noise and the disconnection and reconnection into the test socket.
A downstream Connection Speed of 1760 kbps would give the line an IP profile of 1500Kbps/1.5Mbps.
As Oldjim has said it's strange that the up times are what they are, after you had disconnected the router in order to plug it into the test socket.

Could I have a faulty router, it's a good few years old. I used to have my pc via ethernet cable until we moved to this house, but the phone socket is across the room to the pc, so I use a netgear wireless dongle now.
Also don't know if it is any way connected but I keep getting plusnet notifications that I am approaching my monthly usage, which is now at 5GB, after I increased it a few months ago from 3 as I was getting the same notifications. I've checked my usage and it is all for web browsing, but apart from ebay, facebook and a dog forum, i don't really do that much on it.

I'm afraid I can't help explain why your connection speed isn't higher given your line-attenuation, etc. Hope someone can.
Best wishes
Chris

I think I'm on Broadband my way with 5GB bundled with my home phone anytime. TBH I've been with plusnet for years and have never changed much at all apart from increase my usage to try and stop me getting notifications all the time
I'd raise a ticket but don't know what they're on about most of the time... Took ages to get sorted out when we moved it was horrendous i'd spend an hour each morning on the phone to customer support asking why i still had no connection..The BT openreach guy was not even working at our house, i accosted him, he was fab! ;D.
