My broadband connection has been fixed at 576kb since i started due to the line being approx 5km in length.
This has been since approx 2003,is it possible to have the sync lifted to say 1 meg or 2 ?
The line has 58db attenuation, and the noise margin during the day is approx 24 db,and varies in the evening to approx 22db.
Could the broadband be set to adsl max or similar?
Thanks,
Paul.

It depends on your exchange. What do you get if you enter your telephone number here?

The checker shows this,
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
So can i be put on ADSL Max ?
I think i will have to ask Plusnet if this can be done, unless they see this and let me know

Your upstream margin is 22-24dB, but that's not too important. Your downstream margin is the important one and is currently sat at 14dB. This is on the slightly high side so we do appear to have some headroom for faster speed. I'd recommend a regrade to a fixed 1mbps speed (from your current fixed 512kbps) which should be stable. I wouldn't recommend a regrade to ADSL Max (up to 8Mbps) because this is likely to cause instability and is likely to end up with a slower speed than a fixed 1mbps would provide.
We can regrade you within 24 hours, just raise a ticket or reply here and we'll action this for you.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Yes could you regrade me to 1mb asap.
Since late last night i have now connected the router direct to the master socket and taken out an extension to another room,so giving it the best chance.
Thanks,
Paul.

Thought i would give you an update on the speed increase.
I have been looking at my stats regularly and it is running like a swiss watch !
My stats show the noise margin varies from 12db worst case to 17db,so taking the extension out and router connected directly to master socket has worked a treat.
I am awaiting a quality filtered face plate so expect maybe a sligt improvement again, also i am going to fit a shorter router cable (all helps).
I know it is early days but if i the noise margin stays good for say several weeks/month is their room for improved speed again?
I am aware that the noise margin needs monitoring for some time to check for stability.
I estimated that noise margin would reduce 6db for doubling of sync speed, looks to be the case.
I assume on worst case noise margin over say 4-8 weeks, you would like a minimum of say 6db ,to assure reliable sync?
Thanks,
Paul.

I have been running the speed tester several times yesterday and at 3am this morning, all the tests come back at 470-477kb/s download ?
When i was on 512k sync i was getting about the same !
Any ideas why this is the case ?
Paul.

Edit: Looks like the system didn't increase your profile as it should have done when I changed your provisioned product. I've told our system that you're on Max and manually set your profile to 1Mbps to get around the problem. Please let us know how it goes, and if you'd like to try 2Mbps or ADSL Max.

I am getting very impressed with the fast response I have been singing your praises
By chance i had just done another speed test and low and behold 960+kb/s !
I have just received my xte-2005 face plate and short router lead,so will fit these first, then see how my noise margin goes over the next week or two.
If all looks good then i may very well ask you to increase the sync another notch,we will see.
Thanks again,
Paul.
