Hi,
I play World of Warcraft and am having latency issues, pretty sure its down to a poor ping time.
I currently have a PlusNet Broadband Your Way Option 2.
The plusnet speed test (http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/) doesn't seem to measure ping time.
I have done a few measurements on http://www.speedtest.net/ using the recommended server location to test with - the download/upload speeds seem okay but the ping time is around 415ms which I think is too slow. Am I right in thinking this? Should I try other ping tests - if so what? What should I be expecting for a ping time?
Thanks,
Alan

That's appauling, but I would also say I don't think that's very reliable. When I used it I got rubbish speeds especially compared to mybroadbandspeed, and the first ping time it gave me was 266ms, the second try I got 96ms. Yet pinging direct twice I got 191ms avg, and 189ms avg.
Pinging mybroadbandspeed direct I got 36ms, bbc.co.uk gave me 36ms.
You can ping anything direct using a "cmd"/DOS box.

The speedtest.net ping tester is notoriously inaccurate!
As Anotherone has said, you can measure pings directly by opening a DOS box (Start>Run and type in cmd) and typing, for example, ping bbc.co.uk

My personal opinion would be to not take particular notice of the ping results on http://www.speedtest.net
I've never been a fan of that site and have often found it to feel really slow and the ping results are a touch variable

Thanks for the advice 🙂 I'll try it when I return home this evening.
Is there a command I can use to get a list of the route the ping took as well? I've noticed that I may need this information as well if I need to raise a ticket ...

Yes, you can use "tracert" (short for traceroute)
eg:
tracert bbc.co.uk
eg:
tracert bbc.co.uk

Have a look at pathping - a combination of tracert and ping. I'm on RIN so the beginning of my results is a bit different:
