Is Plusnet IP address 146.198.185.105 based the US?

Re: Is Plusnet IP address 146.198.185.105 based the US?

Fix

@pacificoceanblu

It's an IP address that's been transferred from the USA to the UK. The IP2Location database hasn't been updated. Every other database I have checked is correct.

If this is causing you problems then I suggest that you drop your connection for a couple of hours, hopefully on reconnecting you will (it's far from guaranteed) pick up a different address.

The IP address is not US based, its just that one ( or more ) of the geolocation databases is wrong.

I can indeed work around it and forcing a change does solve it.

The issue was that when the system looks for updates, it chooses servers close to that location for any potential downloads.

Thanks for the swift response

I use mint linux; are you referring to >Update manager  >Software sources ?

Even though I have a UK based IP address the primary source is always somewhere in the US, I've always corrected it to the UK

I'm using Mint as well. I just happened to do a refresh of my current main/bases mirrors yesterday and noticed the only ones I could choose were based in USA, Canada, Mexico etc, nothing elsewhere. Others in the Mint forums also reported it too. I kept them on the UK mirrors I was already using as they clearly worked fine.
