Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Took me a while to get to the phone and back, but at first on the quiet line test I heard absolutely nothing at all, then after about 45 seconds I started hearing intermittant static on the line, so it looks like we may have a culprit.

Have reported a phone fault on the text service and waiting for that to complete all the steps.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Got an engineer coming out tomorrow afternoon, wasn't expecting that on a Saturday but pleasantly surprised, here's hoping they can get everything sorted.

Will check back in after they've been, as I suspect I'll need someone to give the DLM a kick to reset my line once everythings working properly again.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

So the engineer has just left, poor bloke ran all the tests he could but nothing at all showed up on his kit as an error or an issue, except for when he did a quiet line test himself, which again was silent for almost a minute before the crackling static started up in the same way as I experienced it when I did the test. Said it seems to potentially be caused by damp affecting something somewhere along the cable route.

He seems determined to get a solution for it though and said he was going to go try checking everywhere he could get access to along the 700m between me and the cab to see if he could find where the problem was, as well as changing ports/sockets (can't remember exactly how he worded it) as a first/easier step to see if that resolves things.

He's advised me that I'll probably have a few disconnects over the next few hours while he's working, but after that to monitor things over the rest of the weekend and towards mid-week, and if things still haven't cleared up then there will probably have to be more serious work carried out in an effort to get a resolution.

Fingers crossed for us both that it's an easy fix.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Got a text message a short while ago saying the engineer has finished, not sure what they actually did after leaving the house but I didn't get any of the disconnects that they said I would, and having just done another quiet line test there's still the same static on the line.

Obviously there's still a problem, and while I haven't had the repeated disconnects throughout today (just when the engineer disconnected things during the visit), my connection speed has lowered to 27.4/3.6 as of this morning, likely as a result of the DLM trying to get a stable connection.

At this point I'm not sure waiting a few days as the engineer advised will change anything, I'd have thought any potential fix would have both been immediately noticeable and would have resulted in a connection drop to facilitate it.

Including current router stats for comparison.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Fun and games, openreach reported the fault as fixed, when it clearly isn't, just got off the phone with PN support as it's a phone line issue that's causing things and now trying to hopefully get someone from BT support to contact me before they close tonight so I can get another engineer out ASAP to *actually* do something.

Certainly not how I planned to spend my weekend..

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Just off the phone with BT, another engineer visit on Wednesday morning as there was nothing available sooner..

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Tongue

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Another morning with at least one drop that I can see at some time around 6:30am, and my profile has dropped again because of it.. 24.9/3.1 now, wonder what it'll get to before the engineer shows up on Wednesday, anyone want to place bets?

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Did someone at PN just do a DLM reset on my line?

Engineer came out this morning and swapped pairs, but advised against a DLM reset until we were sure that the line was entirely faultless, because a DLM reset would mean potential disconnects as it retrains and thus we wouldn't actually know if any connection stability issues were because of the line or not.

I've been keeping an eye on the line, as I was advised to do, which is why I noticed a disconnect followed by a change in the speeds it was connecting at.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

@Method0ne I very much doubt this was a manual DLM reset - your US SNR figure is too high at 9dB - looks as though whatever the engineer did hasn't fed through the system yet. Your downstream speed is also very low - which ties in with the high SNR.

I'd give it at least another  24 hours before posting that data again.

The first image was before the connection speed changed, and the SNR figures have also changed as per the second/third images.

My comments are based on your latest stats. Anything previous is irrelevant.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

My latest stats show a downstream SNR of 5 and an upstream SNR of 6, shown in both the 2nd and 3rd images in the post I made asking about whether the DLM had been reset, so you're referencing stats that are from before the disconnect/reconnect at a higher speed that is also shown in image 2/3.

Hence why I was asking.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

My apologies - your router provides a lot of data - some superfluous - and I misread the post. It appears that whatever he did must have influenced the DLM - PN don't respond that quick.

My corrected advice is wait and watch.

Fair enough, will continue to keep an eye on things, hopefully things will be ok.

Re: Internet up and down like a yoyo this morning

Welp, guess I was wrong to get hopeful, just had a few repeated drops and done another quiet line test - more static..

Trying to get through to BT again now.. Not entirely sure how much more of this I can cope with..
