Internet slow to connect with FTTC

HI
I am on FTTC and using a Netgear N900 router + usual BT modem.  Using DHCP with PPPoE.
Once connected this set up works fine and im getting good speeds.
However i am getting frequent problems connecting to a browser (im on a Imac using Chrome and Safari)
The connection will hang (especially after its not been used for a while) and can only be resolved by waiting a few seconds and restarting the browser (or occasionally waiting for around 30 secs and it will start)
Sometimes only a router restart will solve problem. As i said earlier once connected everything is fine.
Does anyone have any ideas about this ? Not sure if its a router, isp or other problem.
Any help gratefully received
thanks
j

Re: Internet slow to connect with FTTC

Hi there,
Having checked your connection logs it looks like there might be an issue with your connection (unless you are restarting the router very frequently) I'm just wondering if you did anything differently on Monday and Tuesday as the connection was on pretty much solidly throughout.
I'd advise heading here next to run through our broadband fault checker: http://faults.plus.net as this will give you the steps to help narrow down whether this may be a fault or perhaps an issue with the router.

You haven't got the Idle Timeout set by any chance have you ? It should be set to 0
