Internet has been down since from around six this evening until now...

I've just about had enough. Downtime used to be very infrequent - as it should be. Now I'm having to go hours without a connection every few days of late. When I've got important forms to fill in and important e-mails to send I am obviously very unhappy.
Is there something wrong with the Lampeter exchange?
I'd like some kind of refund. Plusnet happily take my money every month whether or not they are actually providing what I'm paying for.

Yes, there was something wrong with the Lampeter exchange. 2 faults in close succession -  http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php?id=19698 and http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php?id=19714 which of course was not Plusnet's fault.
There was also major work taking place on the BT network infrastructure last week - http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1338213249.htm which will have affected lots of people all around the country depending on which RAS you were connected through at the time, and there was also this fault http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php?id=16002 in the middle of May that may have affected your service.
The last two mentioned will not have affected your sync to the exchange, but the 2 recent ones last night may have done.
