Hi,
Hoping someone can help me with this but I've had Plusnet Unlimited for a few weeks now. All worked well to start with apart from maybe a short connection drop every other day or so but now our internet speed serverely drops between around 6pm - midnight. I've done a number of tests, during the day and evening (I've attached a couple of screenshots showing the speed difference) I havent yet reported a line fault because 1) I wanted to make sure we werent just creating a lot of network (It's a student house, 4 of us) traffic and 2) I havent yet managed to test a different router.
When doing the tests below I made sure no one else was using the wifi and I plugged my laptop direct into the router with an ethernet cable to get best results. Since taking the 2nd screenshot the connection speed has dropped even more. Speeds can vary anywhere between 0.5Mbps and 10+Mbps at the moment.
First test during the day around midday - 9.8Mbps:
Second test at 6pm - 3.4Mbps :

Hi j1mb093,
I've just been running some diagnostics and can't see any obvious causes so I'd get a fault raised as the next step, http://faults.plus.net I can see tried that a few days ago but the question was closed as the information on the fault checker wasn't completed.

Looks like speed/throughput back to normal at 98% of IP profile (20CN) so can't complain, must have been a lack of capacity or maybe congestion at some points along the BT network, after all there were some football games being played and shown on TV
It will be interesting to see how it goes later on tonight.

Ok thanks, I'll do that today. I did start the process of reporting a fault but stopped since I hadnt tried another router. We have another router that's actually indentical to the one plusnet sent us from the previous tennants. They had broadband with o2 so I'm wondering whether it would be worth trying with that router first or whether it would be locked to o2?
Thanks again

Hi there,
I believe those routers are locked down I'm afraid, not sure if you can flash them with any other firmware either. Looks from a quick google like it involves a JTAG which will mean breaking into the thing and some soldering so definitely not one for the faint hearted.
