Interleaving

I have recently requested an upgrade from Value to Unlimited.
This morning I received an email from PN Support saying that they had requested that interleaving be turned off at my request.
Why does this upgrade trigger this request and is it neccessary?

Re: Interleaving

I had the same thing switching from Value to Essentials (Contracted).
No detrimental effect has been experienced, in fact, my BT Speed Test has slightly improved.
If my interleaving is switched off, I felt I'd leave it like that.
Are you saying, Old Jim, that in fact nothing has actually happened and any improvement in my connection is imagined?
How do I obtain my Connection History that I see on some Forum strings?  The display that shows disconnections.....
Regards.....

Re: Interleaving

It needs to be requested from the staff on here - does your router log give any indications

Re: Interleaving

Many thanks, Old Jim.  The event log from my router is attached.
I cannot understand the entries and notice that there appears to be a time-out associated with a Firewall entry....don't know what that means, either!

Re: Interleaving

I changed to Plusnet Unlimited on the 28th and receives an email saying 'We have asked our wholesale broadband suppliers to turn interleaving off at your request. The stability of your service may suffer as a result of turning interleaving off.'
I never requested that interleaving should be turned off so what is going on? I am on ADSL2

Re: Interleaving

You could change the SNTP synchronised to server from once an hour to once a day from telnet or putty following the details in the following post
, that should cut down on some of the entries
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,109764.msg939938.html#msg939938
sntp config poll=1440

Re: Interleaving

OK, thanks Mushy.  I've reset my TG582n to synch the time every 24-hours instead of every 1-hour.  That's often enough, surely?
I guess this might make the Router log a bit more meaningful, with entries over a longer period and perhaps help to resolve my original response to Old Jim.
Regards and thanks again....Noel

Re: Interleaving

That Time to live exceeded log entry is nothing to worry about, it's just your router reporting an external probe to your IP address which your router has declined to respond to. These are a normal feature of the real Internet world which the firewall protects against. Such entries (and others) occur in my log.

Re: Interleaving

Thank you Spraxyt.
Good to know the ".....time exceeded...." entry is "according to plan!"
