Inconsistent speeds

Hello,
Over the last 4 weeks I have been having very unstable internet speeds.
On some occasions when running speed tests I get the 16 Mbps I should be receiving and 2 minutes later the test will return with 2 Mbps.
Online games have terrible lag spikes and very strange packet loss.

1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Download  Speed
9.21 Mbps

0 Mbps 21 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 9.21 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 16.79 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
Upload Speed
0.75 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.83 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.75Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time.
It is possible that any problem you are currently, or had previously experienced may have been caused by traffic congestion on the Internet or by the server you were accessing responding slowly.
If you continue to encounter a problem with a specific server, please contact the administrator of that server in the first instance.
Please visit the FAQ if you are unable to understand the test results.

The connection is wired to the home router.  I have also been experiencing sudden loss of connection for no apparent reason.
Could a member of the team please take a look and advice

Re: Inconsistent speeds

Hi lynton21,
A warm welcome to the forums, though a note of caution, bumping is severely frowned upon, but given this is your first post, I hope the mods might ignore it!  Wink
Data speed tests can and will vary from moment to moment due to a whole range of issues, which is why you need to take the systematic approach to investigating, as described in the speed issues thread - see link below.  Those checks will help to identify if the issue is your router, wifi, internal wiring, the phone line or possibly the service providing the speed test.
We're the tests done over a wired or a wifi connection?  If wifi the first thing to do is to look for a similar variation when connected via an Ethernet cable - but do make sure the wifi is switched off on the PC.  It should not be assumed that on a PC which Is normally connected by wifi but has a cable attached, that the cable will be used in preference to the wifi for Internet connectivity.
Is the phone line quiet?  Dial 17070 option 2.

Re: Inconsistent speeds

Can you please gather the other information requested in the speed issues thread and do the quiet line test?
