Incoming calls killing broadband

Weird problem this one.
If I get an incoming call it knocks out my broadband and it then struggles to reconnect for a while also the phone rings differently (like a long continous ring). Outgoing calls do not cause this prob.
I've changed the filters and even tried a filtered faceplate with no luck, and it seems to be a problem only when the RJ11 cable is connected (even if the router is off)
Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this, especially considering the line is clear if just the phone plugged in?
Thank for any help

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

Have you tried a different cable as it may have developed a short
Have you tried the cable without the router connected to it

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

HI Galaxy,
Can you try a different corded handset and do a quiet line test, by dialling 17070 then press 2 to see if there's any noise. Also it may be worth just having your broadband and no phone into the filter and ringing your number to see what happens.

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

Different phone - quiet test has noise
RJ11 plugged into filter, not router still noise
Router into filter with no phone - broadband connected then dropped out before I could make a call to  Cool Huh

HI Galaxy,
Are you getting the noise when the phone is plugged in without a filter?

No noise when phone is plugged in on its own or with a filter

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

Hi Galaxy,
It may be worth, as Jim suggested, changing the RJ11. If that makes no difference I would suggest raising a fault.

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

It would appear tha it's my RJ11 cable....glad that I dont have to deal with BT engineers who seem to use any excuse to walk away saying "its not my problem" like last time I had a fault and it turned out an underground cable run was flooded and they tried charging me for the callout!

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

Thanks for your help in this thread, much appreciated.
Due to the layout of my house the cable has to pass through a floor, I suspect its slightly moved and had an arguement with a heating pipe along the way.

Re: Incoming calls killing broadband

HI Galaxy,
For best performance it may be worth having the router near the telephone point with a short RJ11 and run an ethernet cable through the floor. This was even if there were to be another fault with your cable it would not affect the stability of your internet connection.
