IP Profile

Hi
Could one of the PN people give my IP Profile a nudge to the max please(7k +) as it's currently at 5500 and sync is 6784kbps since some local exchange problems I suspect of up/down about 4days ago?
Question #39595686
Thanks

Re: IP Profile

Hi The 10th,
your SNR is currently 12dB which will be making your sync and  consequently the IP profile slightly lower. Can you confirm that you are not using extension sockets/cables and are you able to try plugging into the test socket?

Re: IP Profile

Hi Jojo
Normally snr is 11dB and cabling is on an extension and fine before. Just don't want to power anything off yet in case it interferes with BLIP logic  Wink
Been sync'ing at 8128kbps for years.
Thanks

Re: IP Profile

HI The 10th,
I appreciate it's been ok like that but we can't really diagnose problems in an extension socket as the first thing we have to do is rule out any internal issues.

Re: IP Profile

Ok shall give that a go when I can. Given that my Profile is 5500 would that affect the sync speed if I get a lower attenuation reading from the master socket?

Re: IP Profile

The IP Profile has no effect on the sync rate - it's the other way round. The IP Profile that goes with a sync speed of 6784kbps is 5500kbps, your current value.
It's possible your sync speed might increase when you re-sync, depends what target noise margin the DLM has set. If your sync speed does increase it can take up to 5 days for the IP Profile to increase again. Not sure if blip logic still applies but in any case I think it comes into play only if the sync speed is restored before the Profile has reduced.

Re: IP Profile

Thanks what I thought.
I am due an FTTC upgrade on 17/02/11 but today connected router to master socket and got 704xkbps sync with still 15db SNR down and then increased upstream from 22 to 27dB. I do believe there is some issue with the exchange as get a drop out now and then which the log sometimes picks up (today at 2000hrs) and some which don't as it's very brief.
I hope this has no effect on me when I am transferred to FTTC?

Re: IP Profile

Hi The 10th,
Do you mean master socket or test socket. There are lots of things that could cause that so wouldn't like to say what it would be right now.

Re: IP Profile

Hi jojo
Removed cover from master socket and used test socket behind which gave the slightly higher sync and also have a new microfilter.
As I say, I am hoping the problem being downstream won't affect FTTC but would be nice to get this pinned down though given the time left unlikely I imagine.
Thanks

Re: IP Profile

Hi The 10th,
I think you would probably get full speed if it weren't for the SNR. I wouldn't imagine you'll have any trouble once the FTTC is installed though.

Re: IP Profile

Hi Jojo
The SNR sits around 11/12dB in the past. Wonder if BT have changed the noise margin at the exchange after the recent outage and set to 15dB instead of 6dB?
Will the FTTC product use different equipment at the exchange so not to have any issue with 20CN 'speed reduction' affecting the new product?

Re: IP Profile

Hi The 10th,
Basically the fibre will go from the exchange to the cabinet and your pair at the cabinet will be wired into the fibre. This means that you will not be affected by any issues there may have previously been between the cabinet and the exchange.

Re: IP Profile

Thanks for the reassurance Jojo Smiley
Here's hoping for a seamless transition tomorrow A.M. and have router setup and route for CAT5E/6 cable from Master socket to upstairs where Router is to be situated. prepp'd and very organised  Cheesy
Thanks Plusnet for getting the router here in time and the communication (texts) sent - nice!  Smiley

Re: IP Profile

FTTC now running and getting 8.2Mbps u/l but stil stuck on 5500 IP Profile. Any chance for a kick to 20,000 on d/l please?
Thanks

Re: IP Profile

With that attenuation I'm surprised you were not getting a faster sync even with the noise margin at 12!
