IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

Hello,
Ive had to reboot my router about 10times in the past 3 days, becuase of several problems, so, today, i noticed that there was a noise coming from the dial tone on my phone, so the cable was damaged. Out of interest, I did a BT Speedtest and my profile had gone from 2000kbps to 1250kbps. It had nearly halfed, now my speedtests are coming out at 1.23mbps consistentley. Is it possible to have my profile reset??? And, if i reboot to fit a BT iplate after its been reset, will it make a massive difference? Or if i reboot just to fit that, it wont make too much difference. My specs are below:
SYNC SPEED D/L: 3104KBPS
IP PROFILE DL: 1250KBPS
ACTUAL SPEED: 1230KBPS

Also, when my ip profile was on 2000kbps, i used to get about 1800KBPS!!
Is it possible to have it reset so i can get my speed back and will it make a difference if i reboot once to fit a BT Accelerator ?Huh

Regards Aman

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

if your phone is noisy, dont look at Broadband yet, report it to your phone supplier and dont mention broadband

I have raised a ticket with plusnet, il see what they can do for me

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

1) do a bt test and give there results  http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
2)what is your PN profile  (dont post your phone number)  https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
3) what are your router stats  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
then the experts can get to work

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

I forgot one for your own infi  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php  its mostly correct, but my exchange went ADSL2 last month and it is not reflected in the check.  This one is more up to date on the Exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Did you note that your PN profile is higher than your BT one?

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

Hi there,
Your line speed changed again on the 4th, you're currently on a profile of 1500, which is correct for your current sync speed.

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

Hello,
From Pierre_Pierre's chart above, my ip profile is way off...Heres the BT Speedtest Conducted  08 APR 10 at 16.57:-
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1382 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3200 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1500 Kbps

On Pierre_Pierre's graph, the DSL connection range suggests i should get up to 2.5mbps :
Quote from: pierre_pierre

Sync speed (incr 32kb stages)                            IP profile      bRAS ATM bit rate profile                              Maximum Throughput speed
(AAL5 Payload)

From                             To

2848 kbps       3392 kbps                        2500                                     2560                                                           Up to 2.5 Mbps

So that suggests that my ip profile should be more than 1500kbps, anyway, i need to fit a BT Iplate today, il see if that makes a difference within 3 days, it should improve things  Grin

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

Right, iplate fitted on Thursday, My ip profile is now 3500kbps, Sync speed is 4096kbps.
MY BROADBAND SPEED IS LOWER THAN BEFORE, NOW IM GETTING ABOUT 1300KBPS!!!!!
When i had a IP Profile of 2000KBPS, I used to get 1800KBPS!
Why has my speed lowered when my ip profile is higher?Huh
I think il try my old telephone extention cable now, lets see what happens then

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

1. Stop messing things about - if there is one thing guaranteed to give you lower your speeds it is frequent plugging/unplugging/rebooting. You need to work through this systematically.
2. Can you post the output from the BT speed test and the current line speed reported by https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate please. The second should follow the first within 12 hours but sometimes this fails, in which case there is nothing you can do at your end except make things worse.
3. How are you checking your current speed?

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

Hello jelv;
What ive done now is rebooted. Now, my speeds have rocketed up. From 1.2mbps to 3.2mbps now!  Grin I just went on speedtest.net and wasnt expecting much to change, now im getting 2.3mbps.
2. New BT Speedtest data:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 3084 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4256 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
3. Using BT Speedtest and Speedtest.net

But now, I have just realised ive plugged my router into THE WRONG power socket!!! So, nnow i have to disconect and put it back!!  Me and my lack of concentration Roll_eyes

Everything seems better now  Grin

Regards and many thanks for everyone whos helped me

Re: IP Profile nearly halfed - Can it be reset

I suggest you edit out your phone number!
What you've said is interesting. It sounds that PN had got your updated profile speed but not updated your connection profile, rebooting meant it picked up the new profile. That's not how it's supposed to work!
