IP Profile drop - no line noise

My modem (Billion7800) is connected to master ADSL socket (no extensions) and the line does not appear to be noisy (17070 opt2). Sync is normally between 4.0 and 5.5 (long rural line, varies according to weather/temps/wind) but the IP profile has dropped over this weekend : My SNR is around 10.8, which is higher than normal.
BT Wholesale checker gives:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.7 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.2 Mbps-1 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.38 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.75 Mbps
Can someone check the IP profile(s) before I raise a fault?

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Your line is disconnecting quite a bit, which looks like it's caused a sync speed drop at some point. Unfortunately as you're on 20CN the profile doesn't recover instantly when it's gone down and we really need to see a period of stable connections before we can initiate an SNR reset.
Your line is syncing back at 4384 and the profile is showing that it's back at 3000. When was that BT Speedtest performed?

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

That BTW test was this morning, I'll run another shortly and report back.
The plot thickens - the kids have just told me that the internet was disconnecting at the weekend every time the phone rang or a call came in. I'm going to put a corded phone in place and see if that changes anything.

I just disconnected and rebooted the modem, the new test shows :
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.72 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.2 Mbps-1 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.32 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.75 Mbps
Modem stats for DSL:
DSP Firmware Version A2pB025f.d22k
DMT Status No Defect
Operational Mode G.DMT
Upstream 448
Downstream 4320
SNR Margin(Upstream) 18.0
SNR Margin(Downstream) 10.2
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 28.5
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 53.0

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

You've lost a little sync speed after that disconnect/reconnect it's gone from 4384 to 4320. Can you leave the line as it is for now so we can see if it's stable. Let us know if you manage to get a corded phone and whether the line still drops if that rings.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

BTW still shows 0.75M IP Profile.
I tried the corded phone but I could not recreate the 'line drop' fault with either phones (BT or older corded).
I'll check in the morning and log back here.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Audible crackling on the line this morning, raised as line fault #96298875
Probably didn't notice this earlier as I use mobile for most calls these days....

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Hi again,
I've just tested your line and there was no obvious fault showing, so to look into the crackling on the phone line the next step would be to book an engineer. I've replied to your ticket, if you can update that and let me know when you've responded I'll pick it up.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Hi Chris,
I've replied to the ticket - there is now no audible noise on the line now with either phone (corded or BT wireless).
The sync is lower with very high SNR, IP profile still stuck at 0.75M

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Interesting the profile has increased according to our suppliers systems but the speedtest you carried out still shows it as being low.
I'll look into that for you now.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

IP Profile seems to have lifted to 3.0Mbps, modem synced around 3.8 - getting actual 340Kbytes/s transfer.
If it holds all day I'll close the ticket and raise a line fault if it happens again.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

That does look much better.
Our suppliers couldn't see why the profile was low yesterday but it appears to be fine.

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Matthew,
Though better, those figures still look odd.
The 3Mbps CVLAN profile as reported by the BTw speed test is clearly aligned with the synch rate if this is a 20CN service.
How can the reported speed achieved 3.55Mbps (18% above the profile rate) be explained?
Is there more alignment of numbers required?
Kevin

Re: IP Profile drop - no line noise

Yet your profile on our end is also set to 3mbps which means that you shouldn't be seeing speeds higher then this.  Huh
Your on 20cn and your sync speed being at 3872 is just below the sync needed for a 3.5mbps profile from our suppliers.
I'll have to look further into this and I'll post a update as soon as I know more.
