IP Profile changed

Been receiving great broadband and service for first 3months now ive noticed websites load slower now in the evenings and my IP Profile has been changed to 6000kbps and latency has gone up. Not really what Im paying for as am paying for Plusnet Extra with Pro addon, was told in the email by Plusnet "Estimated line speed: 8Mbps. Current line speed: 7.15Mbps". I know its only a drop of 1.15mb but I havnt received any email or correspondence about the change in my profile.
As ive said first 3months were great now seems my service is being reduced. May I ask why? Have done all steps to ensure hard line connection, checked filters, line, restarted my pc and router, even done the test socket and still the same. I know its not my end as I dont set my IP profile and nothing has changed in my setup or phone line since I joined.

Re: IP Profile changed

Its changed again by looks of it, forgot to post router stats before : Uptime: 0 days, 0:11:36
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Channel mode: Interleave
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,180 / 6,944

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 9.92
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 5.5 / 15.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.0 / 15.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

quite a high SN Margin compared to when was with BT, its almost double what they gave me.

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi myth,
The SNR is what will be making things slower. The thing is, there must be some reason for this increase. How is your kit set up? Are you using any extension sockets/cables before your router? Are you using the test socket?

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi thanks for reply. No havnt any extensions on the router. Tried just plugging straight into the test socket directly and didnt get any change. Have tried PC and laptop via wireless and ethernet to no avail. Ive still got some of my old router stats when was with SKY, ill post below this. When was with SKY I kept getting disconnected alot and had engineers out to say the line was fine and was down to my exchange due to it being BT owned and other companies had to lease bandwidth off them hence why I got disconnected a lot to make space for other users and this affected my SN ratios due to my dropping out, I shouldnt have been aware of profile change constantly causing me to drop . I havnt had any noticable issues regarding that now but wondered if the difference in SN margins now and then affected my speed? Im still happy enough to trod along with the 6mb as its miles better than what I had with SKY (500kbs avg.) even though there profile was set to 8.1mb and had an archaic traffic system.

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi myth,
Are you still in the test socket or did you put it back?

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi thanks for the quick response. I plugged everything back in the way I had before this all started and was same. Ive just plugged back into the test socket and heres stats from it but do understand it takes 48hours for it to settle again.

Re: IP Profile changed

hates having to do this but BUMP! I still would like a straight answer or at least reset my IP profile. Im well versed in what to do at my end (had 3 ISP's in 2years). I have tried everything and looks like im starting to go down same route other ISP's have. So ive started taking logs of this account too, why should I be paying extra for the pro addon if 1. you cannot give me the full speed that was stated when I joined 2. The latency required for gaming and 3. Less errors that cause me to refresh websites to get to what I want. After just having sat through 2years of college doing IT courses I really do not want to have to keep going through the steps suggested when I know its nothing to do with my end. All I want is a little clarification to my questions ive been asking. So please take into account that I have done ALL the steps and nothings changed except on test socket I get less speed and more errors.

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi myth,
The SNR is quite high and I want to reset it. I needed you to be in the test socket because that would rule out any possibility of it being the internal wiring. I'll reset the SNR but leave it in the test socket as long as you can so we can see how it performs.

Re: IP Profile changed

Thanks for the quick reply, ill leave it plugged until told otherwise. BT speedtest now says throughput at 5500kbps, even lower now this is getting strange.

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi myth,
The reset has brought the sync back up to 8128 and your profile to 7150. I have matched our profile to this so you should see the difference in the next 15 minutes.

Re: IP Profile changed

Yea noticed the difference, thanks Jo for all the help. Any ideas what may have caused the drop? with the increments it has dropped in looks like a traffic management system was in place as the drops were about 0.5mb each time. Could this be my exchange that is doing this?

Re: IP Profile changed

Hi myth,
Not traffic management but Dynamic Line Management (DLM) looks to me like it was pushing your SNR up due to noise which will bring your sync rate, and consequently your profile, down.  If you can leave it in the test socket for as long as possible so that we can see how it performs that would be good.
