Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Again, it always hassle to ask Plusnet to move ip profile one notch up is rather annoying. The only way is get it uncapped and leave it there as it was and let BT do the profile itself ! I cannot see why can't they do this way !

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

As stated elsewhere it is needed so that the trraffic profiling systems will correctly allocate the priority for your connectiom.
If it wasn't present then - for example - a download could saturate your connection thereby crippling VOIP

You really don't understand how it works!
Data being sent to you goes Plusnet gateway, BT network, your exchange, your line to your router. If Plusnet don't throttle the connection it is totally arbitrary which data is dropped by BT so if you are running P2P and that saturates the line VoIP, gaming, streaming will suffer packet loss as BT throws away packets that exceed the capability of your line. If Plusnet throttle the speed they discard the P2P packets first so that BT don't have to.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Just wondering if BT had enabled 88.2% profile at my local exchange by 10th October, how will I know it already done ? By notice IP Profile without 0 (at the end), or notice the sync speed increasing or notice the connection log went disconnected and re-connection itself ?
Does BT switch off my broadband for 30 minutes downtime ?

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Why do you expect the method by which the IP Profile is calculated to affect the sync speed?

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

It looks like my exchange has now received the update.  Cheesy
Last night at 00:06am (midnight give or take a few minutes), the connection dropped (even though the SNR was 7.0dB at the time) reconnecting at 2203kbps and the IP profile according to the SpeedTester site is now 1940kbps.

CX23882, which exchange are you with ? Lucky you! Mine is not yet updated, come on BT as my exchange is always, always the last one to upgrade on ADSL, ADSL2+ and now 88.2% then FTTC.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

I think you will get FTTC by late 2014/15 more likely, the same as my exchange too! Pretty very slow ahead.

Just bear in mind though that these may drop down again with the next delta reports, as we're still getting the ones in 500/1000 increments below what your profile is reporting.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

I have to confess it's all a bit confusing to me but according to Router stats
the Expected profile is 6000
oh I forgot to mention that I'm on the DLM trail. (as far as I know), which sets a Hard Profile.
Maybe a member of the PN Team could clarify the Situation for me

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

Hi ctech500,
The hard fixed profile will just mean that your line will always try to sync at the highest rate. It won't make any difference to the way the IP profile is calculated. I'll also raise your profile on our side to 6000.

Re: IP Profile - 88.2% method

H,
i my exchange has just been upgraded too and the SNR is now NOT moving from 8 from previously moving between 2 to 6 and my line sync speed appears dropped from 74?? to 5312
Can the updates mess up the SNR reset previously processed by PN. I'm now down 1mb and appear to have a fixed SNR. Can PN please help me out with a SNR reset. The previous set to 6 saw it fluctuate between 3 and 7 and I had a sync of 74??

Fibre will not be wide spread in Scotland 'til I'm well pushing up the daisies so I'd like to retain the good speed that I had.
Cheers,
podman
