I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

My line went bad yesterday evening with a very high error rate so I tried a router resync with no effect then a router reboot. This last one dropped my sync rate to just under the 4000kbps IP profile level so I immediately (within 1 minute) did another resync using DMT with the noise margin forced down a bit. Result 4544kbps sync speed. The errors still kept increasing until about 11pm whwn every thing went back to normal. - error rates shown on the graph from Routerstats.
In that one minute blip the BT automatic system dropped my IP profile down to 3,500kbps - that isn't what the BT speedtest gave as it is still giving silly results but that was the effect on speed.

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

But there's no solution other than changing to an ISP that doesn't use the IP profile system - if you actually have that option (I don't).

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

For the past couple of days (and currently), Jim , 3500 would be a luxury; I'm stuck on sub-1M on a line that normally runs at 6.5M ... so I'm also feeling very unimpressed indeed at the moment

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

I think just about everyone and his dog is fed up with the IP profile system. It seems like I'm waiting for Christmas stuck on a banded 2000 profile. Only the drm gremlin and Elvis knows why. Angry

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

Now something is messing with my upstream speed.
for no obvious reason my line resyched with an upstream speed of 160kbps - a resync brought it back up to 448kbps although the noise margin is a bit low
and it just went down again

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

Now this is interesting - IP profile has recovered and the Plusnet version matches it at 4000kbps but this is the result of the speed test

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

Recently I don't believe either the speed at the Plusnet end or the BT result. For some unfathomable reason I'm on a banded profile. Plusnet say 2meg, BT say 1750, my router says 3072. But for the last couple of days it's been downloading at 3meg speed.
The only thing that matches is the screwyness at both the BT and Plusnet ends.
I'm not complaining about the speed, 3meg works for me, but it would be nice if the collars and cuffs matched.

HI Jim,
What results are you getting on other speedtesters?

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

Not relevant as my line just picked up a load of interference which wiped out all the higher frequencies.
Noise margin dropped from 6 to 0.3 and lost connection.
Reduced speed from 4800 to 3900 with 6dB noise margin.
After about 40 minutes the noise margin increased to 10.5dB
I blame the builders equipment next door - directly under the telephone wire to my house
Will leave it alone for 24 hours and see if it happens again

Hi Jim,
I'm looking into this with Dave so it would help to know what you got with other speed tests.

I didn't do any as that would mean disabling Kaspersky

Re: I am really cheesed of with the IP profile system

just for Dave I have run some tests - note that the Plusnet profile is still at 4000kbps as it hasn't picked up the drop
