I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

A general question regarding upload speeds. Why does PlusNet only provide 832k for businesses (apart from the obvious desire to get more money), domestic users I'm sure would appreciate having the faster upload speed. I note that there are quite a few ISP's now providing this with their standard domestic products. Is there a chance that PlusNet will follow?  Are there others out there that would also like to see this as a standard offering from PlusNet?
This type of request has to start somewhere and I hope that I have chosen the correct place.

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

You can have it too, but it's at extra cost. I tried it a while back, but it wasn't cost-effective for me.
BT charge extra for it before you ask why it costs.....
And I'd like to know who exactly includes it in their domestic products because that seems very unlikely due to the BT charges.
(apart from LLU and ADSL2+ providers obviously; I'm on ADSL2+ with default 1300kbps upload)

£8 per month IIRC on any BBYW package. This is due to the BT costs, PlusNet have a fairly small margin on this.

… and if you want it, just raise a ticket and ask. The monthly cost is £8.

I also believe that as it is the Max Premium service your traffic gets routed round BTs network with higher priority.
Haven't seen any ISP offering it as standard on BT provided ADSL packages.

Thanks for the replies. To answer the question re who, well Tiscali does for sure. However, this is LLU not BT. I wonder where PlusNet is on ADSL2+? I note HPsauce has it - who is your provider?

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

Thanks for the link, unfortunately my exchange is not listed.
It has been mentioned that PN have the option for £8 per month, is it something I can add to my existing service or do I have to change to the business package?

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

Hi Neil,
I'm sorry noone from PlusNet has replied to you yet.
As per earlier responses, this is only offered as standard on Business Premier because of the additional charges that we would incur.  If you wish to add it on a residential product, we can do this for you at a cost of £8 per month.  You can simply raise a ticket tfor ths and we would action it for you.

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

Hi James,
Thanks for the response. Are there any other benefits (apart from improved upload) I would get for the £8? Is it an option that I can remove if I find that it's not proving as useful as I had thought? I wouldn't want to be tied into it for a year if I felt it wasn't worth it.
Regards

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

Hi Neil,
Yes, we can certainly turn it off free of charge if it doesn't suit you.
It will also offer prioritised traffic across the BT Network, which is a bit like the lower contention ratios that used to be offered on BTs fixed rate services.

Re: I (We?) Want Fast upload speeds up to 832k

Hi James,
Whilst I have your ear (so to speak) I wonder if you might answer a question I have about my IP profile. I am within 250 yds of my exchange and therefore have a line speed of 8.1, my ip profile is set at 7, Is there a reason why the IP profile isn't set at a higher level.
Results from BT speedtester
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
   DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
I realise than it is impossible to get 8Mbps due to the control bits etc, but wondered why the IP profile isn't also set to 8.
Many thanks
Neil
