How? to limit change to adsl-IP address

Just changed from VM to PN
With VM my dynamicIP hardly ever changed.
With PM my dynamicIP changes quite often even with router always ON.
Is there a way to reduce the changes withou paying for static?Huh

Re: How? to limit change to adsl-IP address

Hi 'ostridge', and welcome to the forum !  Cool

Are you aware that the Plusnet charge for a static IP address is onetime payment of £5, and not a recurring monthly fee ?
Why does it matter to you if the dynamic address changes occasionally ?
As you have just moved to Plusnet from VM, then your line may still be performing it's ten day ADSL training period.
It is to be expected that the connection drops and reestablishes frequently during this time, and can cause the dynamic address to change on each reconnect.
If you are beyond the ten days training period, then your IP address shouldn't be changing if the router is always on,  I'm wondering whether you have an intermittent connection now that you have been transferred on to the BT infrastructure.  If this is the case, login to the Plusnet "Member Centre" and register a fault by running through the tests as advised using the "Faults Troubleshooter", so the Plusnet "Faults Team" can use your answers to help investigate the problem for you.

Re: How? to limit change to adsl-IP address

Hi ostridge, welcome to the forum!
Looking at your account, since your connection has been active (03/03/16) you've gone through 7 IP addresses, however these coincide with the connection drops/session starts in this time as shown on the RADIUS graph below:

If you need the IP address to stay the same, it may be worth adding a static IP to your account for a one off £5 cost as Nibiru has mentioned. Alternatively if you don't want to pay the one off £5 cost, it may be worth looking in to Dynamic DNS.

However be aware that judging by the "New Network" thread, users on static IP won't benefit as much from the changes.
