Connection still seems sluggish. BTW speedtest is showing pings of 100-300. Connection speed 0.58dl and 0.28 ul.
Sync speed still showing the same at 2867.
SNRM fallen to 3.4 but I think that was more to do with me removing an ethernet cable from the router after the wireless started working once again.
Something certainly doesn't seem right.

Re: How to get max speed?

Connection was becoming unmanageable so decided to do a resync even though it's dark. Removed tel. wire from router, left it a few mins then reconnected. Sync speed dropped back a bit (expected) but SNRM is now back to 6 and actual usable speed is a bit better as well as pings recovering to 40 or so at max. Still seems quite up/down/up rather than shooting up, flatlining at max speed while a video loads, and then falling back at the end. Not a happy connection at all it seems.

Re: How to get max speed?

Sorry to add yet more posts, but it seems something incredibly weird has happened. The upstream SNRM, which has always been around the 15-17 mark.....has today dropped to 6 when I did that most recent router restart.

Re: How to get max speed?

You should try and gather as much data as possible before a resync. Have you done a Quiet Line Test?
The SNRM will always go back to 6 because that is your current target SNRM.
Did you check which Gateway you were on before and check now. This sort of feels like congestion type issues, but not necessarily at Plusnet, although the network is very busy tonight, pretty close to the largest number of users online and some gateways are also close to the largest number of users, yet the traffic isn't at a peak - odd. But I'd written this before your last post, so it may be the line or interference.
What ip address are you pinging btw?
Have you got your Plusnet Firewall set on Low?

Re: How to get max speed?

Are you running RSL and DSLstats at the same time?

Re: How to get max speed?

Just ran a QLT - no noise.
Interesting you say that about the SNRM - when I plugged this router in first about 3-4pm it reset to six, but then dropped shortly after back to around 4. In terms of the upstream SNRM this have never changed before when a resync happens. This is the first time I have ever see this happen.
I'm afraid I knew nothing about gateways. I am currently on pcl-bng03 however.
Ping address: 212.159.13.49
PN firewall is currently set to off. Should this be changed?

Re: How to get max speed?

I would set it to low unless you need any of those ports that it blocks, it will stop some of the unsolicited traffic getting to you which may clog up your connection if severe, and gets counted in your usage as well. You won't be able to activate the change without a resync as you can't drop PPP, but as your IP profile has changed check your Current Line Speed again if that is still to catch up then you'll get a PPP drop after which the Firewall change will become active.
If you are running RSL and DSLstats at the same time your TP-Link may well not like it. That maybe affecting performance - a lot of modem/routers don't like more than one login with the same user.. I'll give you some more tips on that later.

Re: How to get max speed?

Thanks. I've closed DLSStats for now. Only had both open as DSL gave the upstream value. Never found it to be a problem however but we'll see how that runs.
Current line speed still shows 1.4mbps. Have therefore selected Low firewall as suggested. Can always turn it off if it becomes a problem.

Re: How to get max speed?

Can you check your IP Address to see if it's changed which will indicate you've had the PPP drop, also check which Gateway you are on which will likely have changed as well. But also the log should show the drop in PPP.
Reviewing yesterdays events,
the period of intermittent high pings could be accounted for by many things, from modem/router being busy dealing with traffic, not liking two logins from the same user requesting stats, firmware not too clever, computer being busy with other tasks, congestion somewhere in the network at that time, etc etc. As it doesn't seem to be an issue that repeats on a regular basis, it's just something to keep at the back of one's mind for now.
It would be useful to see the SNRM graph(s) from the resync at 1540 through the period before and after the sync speed change (to 2876 at around 1642 and onwards to where it settles at around 3.5 dB before the 2010 resync.
The change in US SNRM at that resync is a bit of a mystery, but may be related to a burst of noise at the time of the resync, (leaving some sort of fault aside) - according to the log there is three ADSL link down which may be related -
Nov 8 20:09:31   user   crit   kernel: ADSL link down
Nov 8 20:09:32   daemon   crit   syslog: Clear IP addresses. Connection DOWN.

Nov 8 20:09:52   user   crit   kernel: ADSL link down
Nov 8 20:09:57   user   crit   kernel: xDSL G.994 training

Nov 8 20:10:09   user   crit   kernel: ADSL link down
Nov 8 20:10:10   user   crit   kernel: xDSL G.994 training

Nov 8 20:10:28   user   crit   kernel: ADSL link up, Path 0, us=436, ds=2447
however the time between you pulling the line and reconnecting also seems too short that DLM will certainly have clocked those as drops.
We may get some more information from a Bits/Tone plot. If you put RSL on pause/stop and start DSLsats, go to the Tones tab which hopefully you'll have and then Bitloading. If you have grab a copy of that and post it.
btw the BT speedtest that you ran that gave the high ping and slow speeds, was that a one off, or did you repeat the test a few times and try any other testers as well?

Re: How to get max speed?

IP Address Is:
87.113.246.xx
You are currently connected to gateway pcl-bng03.
I'm afraid I can only trace the log back to 7am. The sync speed is still 2447 which is the same as last night.
I ran the BT Speedtest multiple times, and from different computers too just to be sure. I've just run another this morning which shows:

Re: How to get max speed?

Is that IP address the same as the one you redacted in last night's log? No change in Gateway!
The Bits/Tone is not especially clever, but that may be related to that after dark resync and the related issues.
The SNRM graph that ran upto 1752 has a lot of significant events. What happened at the following times? 1608/1609; 1612/1616;  1618/1621;
& 1621/1623 - this last one looks like the resync that the log gave the impression was 1642 ish.  Spikes at 1635 & 1647 and the step down at 1743.
We need to try and get a handle on what might be causing these things. Was any of those events any moving around of cables at all? Were the spikes phone calls perhaps? Anything switching on at those times?

Re: How to get max speed?

Yes, same IP.
1608/1609 - router restart to try and restore wireless
1612/1616 - router lost contact with PC
1618/1621 - router lost contact with PC
1621/1623 - router restart to regain contact and restore wireless
I am unsure why the wireless disappeared but it would not allow any devices to connect. I therefore resorted to a wired connection and plugged an ethernet cable into the router.
The spikes at 1635 and 1647 I cannot place at all.
The step down at 1743 was when I removed the ethernet cable.I had been using prior to the wireless restoring itself shortly before.
Hope that helps.
