How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

I have a connection that is apparently capable of about 5Mb but at the moment I'm limited (as you see below) to less than half of that. I've been rebooting my router to try and push the BT software to assign a different profile, but with no luck.
Just to clarify - I've only had this line active for a week, and I'm just wondering how much longer I should expect to wait for an upgrade in speed. Part of me is wondering whether, in fact, I should already have had a boost and am the subject of a mistake somewhere along the line.
Below is a typical result from BT's speed testing site, and I've managed to test many times (with one test between midnight and 6am - as mentioned somewhere in the literature), all with practically identical results.
Feel free to tell me to shut up, and that things will improve in the fullness of time. I'd just like to have an idea of how full it should get - and when that would be Wink
Many thanks for reading the whole thing!
Gwydion
From www.speedtester.bt.com - typical result
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  5760 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1737 kbps

http://dewin.net/bttest.jpg - another typical result.
ps: I first mentioned the problem in a posting to another thread which can be found here. Yes, I'm impatient. For that I apologise.

Hi there,
It's actually showing as having you on a 5000Kbps profile since yesterday.
Could you try rebooting and running another BT speedtest?

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Also remember the exchange and modem are still working out the best speed you won't really start to see solid results until after the first 10 days when your BT profile should rise
When the training period is over and when you achieve a sync you find suitable, it will take 3 days for your BT profile to catch up - you can see this at anytime rather than running speedtests from the High Speed Broadband icon under connection settings
Mine is just starting to stable out and it's been active for 2 1/2 weeks

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Just rebooted and ran the test again:
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  7328 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1841 kbps

Doesn't appear to be much sign of a higher profile, unfortunately.
Thanks for the comment too pcoventry76, I'm just concerned that the profile hasn't moved at all - despite my having (from what I can see) a pretty rock solid 5mb connection rate. I guess I'll have to wait until the 10 days are up.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Hi there,
I've seen a couple instances of stuck profiles over the last week.  Can you possibly bear with it for a couple of days and see if the IP Profile has gone up?
If it hasn't then please let me know and I'll raise a fault with BT on Monday.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

you may see higher speeds than the profile, but as James says it's probably stuck.
you have an awesome sync there so please don't reboot your modem anymore. as repeated reboots and bt  starts to think there is a problem

We're talking about a number of reboots on a daily basis.
A daily reboot is recommended, particularly in the first 10 days of the IPStream Max service.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

i know i was er just testing you  Grin
Some people may constantly reboot several times a day in the hope that their sync will improve their throughput.
In this situation they will be stuck in a circle.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Oh dear,
back again with no changes in profile over the weekend, and now I get an error message from the speed tester:
The IP address discovered on the network associated with your telephone number:(snip - my edit), did not match the one we have logged from this browser/connection. Please check your telephone number and try again. If problem persists please contact your CP.
Anyone have any ideas? Pretty sure the profile needs nudging too Sad

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Hi Gwydion,
I'm seeing profiled speeds of 5000Kbps on both the BT and PlusNet end.
Last update was on the 28th.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

I'm still trying to get a test through the speed tester - will put one up here if there's still a problem.
Thanks for the prompt response Smiley

Try disconecting for 20mis in case  you have a stale connection.
It happened to me quite a few times when i first got MAXed  back last march. Not sure whether this happens still.

Re: How soon after activation should your IP Profile edge up?

Hmm.
I've seen a few instances recently of BTs systems taking 24-48 hours to update.
If it's not been amended in a day or so, let me know and I'll raise a fault with them.
