How much difference would you expect from the Master Socket?

Hi all,
I'm having some problems with my connection at the moment so have been trying to verify on the Master Socket before calling anyone.  I noticed that my Data Rate (line speed?) is significantly higher in my master socket than into the faceplate, which is perhaps to be expected, but I was amazed at how much of a difference it made.
Before (in the face plate)
Data Rate 1536Kb (down) | 448Kb (up)
Noise Margin 13 | 18
Output Power 123 | 170
Attenuation 58 | 31
After (Master Socket)
Date Rate 2752Kb | 448Kb
Noise Margin 12 | 19
OutputPower 122 | 188
Attenuation 58 | 31
Does it really make that much of a difference to my downstream Data Rate or does it look like my faceplace is a little suspect?  In which case, would anyone recommend one of these - http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/adsl_faceplate.htm ?Huh
The issue that I am looking into is a slow (over the course of a few hours) degredation of my line speed followed by disconnection.  The line actually sounds quite noisy at times as well.  I've noticed some BT chaps doing a fair bit of work around my area of late so could easily put it down to them but want to be absolutely certain its not my kit first!!  So far I've replaced the filter but it's made no difference.
All thoughts appreciated.
Ben

That sounds like your internal wiring is a problem - that is the wires attached to the removable faceplate
If you line is noisy then report it to your voice supplier but don't mention broadband.
However make sure you can hear the noise when using the test socket - if you can't it's your internal wiring again

Re: How much difference would you expect from the Master Socket?

If it was my wiring would you expect the line to be noisy all the time?
I'm currently connected back to the faceplate (as normal) and the line is quiet, the broadband connection seems stable and the line speed is healthy.
Can a wiring fault on the faceplate be that intermittent?
Do you have any experience of that alternative faceplate that I linked to as well?

No - I use the ADSLNation http://www.adslnation.co.uk/products/xte2005.php
Do you have any wires connected to the removable faceplate or is that the only socket in the property

FWIW, I've got a fair run of extension wiring, and have found no difference in performance between the Clarity and ADSLNation faceplate - both excellent.

The ADSLNation one is cheaper, perfect!
Currently I am wired up as follows. 5 m. extension cable from BT socket to ADSL filter, DSL line off to my modem and a splitter to take my phone and Sky lines.  This has been the same setup for several years so I'm not too concerned about it (although I appreciate that the extension cable won't help my connection speed).

Also found ADSLNation to be very efficient dispatchers, and Clarity very slow.

the difference could be that you put it into the master socket when there is a good signal from the exchang (10am to 3pm, 2pm i find best)  , and the previous dsl speed was due to a disconnect or reeboot in the evening / night.  I would try the faceplate again around 2pm , then you will see if it worth splashing the cash !

Thanks HaydnExport.
I tried the master socket at about 6ish last night, not sure if that's a good time or not then!!

Re: How much difference would you expect from the Master Socket?

Update:
ADSL Nation faceplate installed and *initially* things looked amazing - a line speed of c.2700Kb which is unheard of.  Problem is, the connection reset a few hours later and I'm now back down to 416Kb again.  I just dont get it!!!  Undecided
I'll try a different modem and dsl cable in a bit just to make sure but I really cant see it...
Any more thoughts from anyone?

Re: How much difference would you expect from the Master Socket?

Here's a weird observation - Sometimes when I make a phone call the connection seems to drop and tries to reconnect.  The reconnected line speed is always alot worse.
What could be wrong now????  This is destroying my mind!
