Re: How do I become a 'bright spark?"

Regarding the quantity of posts, many (if not all) of the bright sparks will have originated over on PlusNet's old discussion forums, where they will have built up a more formidable number of posts - and they could have since just become more busy which means they don't have time to post much on these new forums any more. Becoming a bright spark though certainly isn't stringently to do with the number of posts a member has made, although I think there is a certain amount of correlation in it because you have to have posted a reasonable number of times to become noticed, nominated, etc..

It can be arranged if you wish James, all we would need is completion of form P45.

Re: How do I become a 'bright spark?"

Sorry, I must be missing the point of the above thread.
If it's saying a bright spark may not always be right, then of course. We're only human, and none of us always do. So common sense then really isn't it? As is "good advice can come from all sources".
So I fail to see why the OP wouldn't want to become one.

I am quite sure it is a very well deserved accolade and I frequently bow to the obvious superior knowledge of and detailed replies by many members of this forum, Bright Spark or not.
Personally I have been in the IT business for more years than I care to mention and I still learn from you guys.
Right....I'm off to the Hallamshire to have these bullets removed.

I agree. I've only recently (July) graduated from Uni in Networking and Computer Support, and I feel this is a great place to learn things that I didn't know (even things that I wouldn't think that I would be interested in, such as telcom infrastructure etc).
I never say that I know everything, quite the contrary. However, I do like to help those who need assistance on a subject I am knowledgable about.

Re: How do I become a 'bright spark?"

Interesting perspective on the subject. I once had a student who stopped coming to my lessons. When someone asked him why, his reply was "I've learnt everything I think I need to learn."
I don't if if that made him more ignorant before or after.

Re: How do I become a 'bright spark?"

He had learned wisdom.
He had learnt that knowledge is infinite
No matter how much he learnt,
The quantity he didn't know was infinitely greater.
Therefore, for him, he might as well be content with his limited learning.
