I can't find the option anywhere on the website.
I just want to make a one-off payment as my speed has been capped to 0.125 Mbps until next Friday.

You go here https://portal.plus.net/data_transfer_watch/ and it will be added on to your next bill.

If I was to add the £5 at 01:00, when would it take affect?
Also, when it does take affect, as long as I don't surpass the 5GB, will I be able to download anything I like between 00:00 and 08:00 as I usually can? (when I don't reach the 250 GB cap, I mean)

it should take effect fairly quickly I believe and yes you'll be able to download off peak.

I just applied it and it still says "This month you've used 250.96GB of your 250GB allowance".
Let's see how long it takes to add the additional 5 GB.

What the...
I reached my 250 GB cap on Monday.
Tuesday I downloaded 2.89GB
Wednesday I downloaded 575.32MB
Thursday I paid £5 for 5 GB more.
I'm now seeing that I've use 158 GB!
I damn well hope the 5 GB applies AFTER I first add it.

"251.02GB of of your 255GB allowance"
There is no WAY I've used 1.02 GB since I added the extra 5 GB an hour ago. This needs looking into to. I'll call tech. support tomorrow and unless they can tell me exactly where it's from, I'll contact trading standards. I've lost trust in the bandwidth tracking system.

I don't think you have - bear in mind last time you looked (before the 5GB had been applied) you'd used 250.96GB so in the mean time it's only actually been 0.06 GB (250.96 + 0.06 = 251.02)
Hope that helps explain, not sure what happened with the 158GB though but that seems to have corrected itself.
