How can I improve upload speed?

I joined PluseNet from TalkTalk for its better customer service. I've seen my average download speed drop from around 16MB/s to around 12MB/s which doesn't really worry me. But I have seen my upload speed drop from around 1MB/s to 200Kb/s. In other words, my uploads are taking five time longer than when I was with TalkTalk.
Is there anything I can do to impove my upload speed, other than going back to TalkTalk.

I had a drop in upload speed on moving to Plusnet from o2. You can ask for the upload cap (don't know why it's capped anyway) to be removed, and once that is done, it will be where it was before.

Thanks mman for the advice and Adam for the action. I'll certainly try that out tomorrow and see if I can get my 4Gb away in under 24 hours.
