Home plugs....can someone explain...

Ok....had FTTC fitted yesterday...long story short I'm only getting 445kbps over wireless, wife doesn't want cables running all over the flat!
Someone suggested home plugs...I have no idea what they are...and moreover do plusnet supply them?

Could someone explain before I go blindly buying something I don't really need?
Thanks!

You can see some information here from the Devolo site (lots of others available)

My daughter has just moved over to FTTC and homeplugs work well for her ,albeit with a slight reduction in speed.
She is using these

Re: Home plugs....can someone explain...

so, will i need a new router?
also, can the plug go into an extension cord, or does it need to go straight into the wall?

I think most wife`s ( cos most of us only have one ! )... have this image of loose wires trailing around the back of the furniture, as in TV aerials and such.... my wife is no different.... I just go ahead and fix the extension socket to the wall, then run the wire  ( make sure it is the hard copper type - not the flat "extension cable" ) around the skirting board, but tucked under the edge of the carpet.... making sure not to get it fouled up with the carpet gripper!... (lethal stuff on fingers and knuckles).  Of course this doesn`t work if you don`t have carpet !.. so a neat install along the top of the skirting board.  once it has been done for a couple of days, she won`t even notice it... !...
I can recommend this ebay seller, with super fast delivery service.

Re: Home plugs....can someone explain...

I'm using these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA211KIT-200Mbps-Powerline-Ethernet/dp/B004INVKP4 - very good price and free delivery.
I have one end in a long extension with a 2 way socket at the end (one for the homeplug and the other powers the PC etc.).
You don't need a new router - one plugs in to one of the ethernet ports on the router and the other in to the PC. The pair behave just like a long ethernet cable.
The other thing is if you need another connection somewhere else you just add a single unit and all three talk to each other. I did that when I got a TV with an ethernet connection for watching iPlayer etc.

I think in this case Gerry,  it's his ethernet he wanted to extend not the phone socket, especially as he has fibre, there is a special data extension kit if one wants to have a phone socket further away from the main one.
