I just got an email from Plusnet telling me I'd exceeded my monthly usage allowance by 2Gb. On checking, apparently I've used 3.91Gb today in about 5 hours!! The one different thing I've done is update to Windows 8.1 - could this really account for that much usage? I'm confused - lol. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows updates can use large amounts of data - especially if it fails and has to try again.
Found on another site, they reckon around 3.5Gb

You might want to see if moving to unlimited may be of benefit. Yes you'd normally have to enter into a new contract but with some keen prices at the moment you might find it is not a lot more ££ a month (sometimes less for some people) and you won't have to worry about monitoring your usage.
