Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

Some months ago I had problems with broadband speed. Plusnet worked on the problem which was in the exchange. I`ve been having similar problems for last few days. Just done a few tests on Think Broadband. The best download speed I`m getting is 2.2Mbs and upload of 0.3 Mbs. Before this problem the figures were between 7&8 Mbs and about 0.9 Mbs. I`ve just been talked into staying with Plusnet for another 12 months. Next time I think I`ll just move to another ISP. I`m in Ossett in Yorks. Anyone else having same problem in this area ?

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

This is my line speed test :-
Estimated line speed:
   8Mb (This may vary between 5.5Mb and 12.5Mb) - Checked on 2014-12-12 23:14:30
Current line speed:
   2.2 Mb
I`m not technical at all so I can`t do much more. I cant connect laptop to master socket as I only have USB sockets on laptop. I have reported problem to support team but they take ages.

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

Your sync has plummeted and your SNR has shot up even though you have a very stable connection.
I need to ask where your router is? Is it in the test socket, if not, can you try it there for us please? There is work that we can do to resolve this, and in theory it will be quick but we need to ensure the problem isn't at your side first.
I've also moved the ticket you raised to us, along with the line stats to our faults team. That can be closed though if the test/master socket resolves the problem for you.

That's nailed it.
Something you had plugged in caused the problems you've had. It will take a little while for the throughput to increase, but at least you know the problem is in your premises. It might be worth checking everything one by one to see how those stats change to find the offending article.

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

Can you give me any hint oh what might be causing problem ?. In hallway I have router plugged into master socket via a filter into which my phone is also plugged in. That`s it. I don`t have TV box or anything like that. In study I have desktop PC. Before the problem started, I was getting about 9Mbs on desktop. Just checked it and I`m getting just over 2Mbs now.

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

I agree entirely with you. I have current problem with my speed. Last time I had it a few months ago, Plusnet stated that it was problem with my equipment. I was tearing my hair out until they came back to me after 5 days or so to say the problem was in exchange. This time, they are saying problem is with something I have plugged in. Same new telephone socket, same router, same telephone, same laptop, same desktop. I was going to go with Sky last month (my son has it and it`s superb) but they talked me into another 12 month contract. Wish I had turned off my hearing aids !!

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

@ossettbob
I thought your sync speed had increased significantly when connected to the master socket? That shows exactly why we ask for these tests, as if we'd sent an engineer and they found the lower speed was due to not being connected at the master socket there would likely have been an engineers charge to pass on.

These are stats not plugged into master socket on my PC upstairs. Bear in mind I am not technical at all with computers.

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

You had 2.5Mbit sync rate this morning, and 10.9Mbit this afternoon between moving between the sockets has changed something, whether it be a loose wire (seems most likely), or even possible just a reboot of the router.

Re: Here we go again !!!. Slow broadband

Error seconds, LOF and LOS not reset, so don't think router has been rebooted.
